Accounting Associate

A professional services firm is seeking an Accounting Associate to join their accounting team. Reporting to the Controller, this is a great opportunity for an early-career accounting professional looking to deepen their technical foundation and grow within a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate brings 2-3 years of accounting experience within professional services and is eager to take on meaningful responsibility from day one.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the execution of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including journal entry preparation, accruals, and account reconciliations
  • Support general ledger maintenance, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with GAAP
  • Perform technical accounting tasks under the guidance of the Controller, including research and documentation of accounting treatment for complex transactions
  • Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including invoice processing, cash application, and vendor and client reconciliations
  • Prepare and maintain supporting schedules for balance sheet accounts, identifying and resolving variances in a timely manner
  • Assist in the preparation of internal financial reports and supporting analyses for senior leadership
  • Support the coordination of external audits by preparing workpapers, pulling documentation, and responding to auditor requests
  • Utilize ERP systems to process transactions, pull reports, and maintain accurate financial data
  • Build and maintain Excel-based models and schedules to support reporting, reconciliations, and ad hoc analysis
  • Partner with colleagues across the firm to ensure proper accounting treatment of business activity and support cross-functional finance initiatives
  • Identify opportunities to streamline recurring processes and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
  • 2-3 years of accounting experience within a professional services environment required
  • Strong proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and financial modeling
  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems required
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Self-starter who is eager to learn and grow within a team-oriented environment
