Hopedale Medical Complex is seeking a skilled and motivated Certified Athletic Trainer, PRN to provide athletic training and sports medicine services for local high school athletic programs.

This position provides medical coverage for home athletic events and supports injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and safe return to participation. The Athletic Trainer works closely with student-athletes, families, coaches, athletic directors, and HMC physicians to promote the health, safety, and well-being of student-athletes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Athletic Training and Sports Medicine

• Provide athletic training coverage for local high school home athletic events.
• Provide medical coverage for games, practices, tournaments, and other athletic activities as assigned.
• Evaluate and assess athletic injuries and communicate findings and recommendations to appropriate healthcare professionals.
• Assist with injury prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and conditioning programs.
• Monitor athletes throughout the recovery process and support appropriate return-to-participation recommendations in collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
• Communicate injury status, treatment plans, and activity restrictions to athletes, families, coaches, and athletic directors.
• Coordinate athletic training coverage and services with school athletic directors and coaching staff.
• Provide clear and age-appropriate education to student-athletes regarding injury prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and health and safety.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of injuries, evaluations, treatments, and rehabilitation activities.
• Conduct patient assessments and communicate relevant findings to physicians as appropriate.
• Support athletic training outreach and community sports medicine activities as needed.

Professional Responsibilities

• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
• Maintain compliance with HMC policies, professional standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
• Participate in continuing education and professional development activities as appropriate.
• Maintain current knowledge of athletic training and sports medicine practices.
• Demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, dependability, and effective communication.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or entry-level Master's degree in Athletic Training from an accredited program.
• Current Board of Certification (BOC) certification .
• Current Illinois Athletic Trainer license or eligibility for Illinois licensure.
• Current CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain certification upon hire.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, injury assessment, prevention, rehabilitation, and therapeutic techniques.
• Ability to provide safe and age-appropriate care to student-athletes.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with athletes, families, coaches, athletic directors, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions within the scope of professional practice.
• Professionalism and commitment to patient confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

• One to two years of athletic training experience preferred.
• Previous experience working with high school athletic programs preferred.
• Experience providing coverage for athletic events, practices, tournaments, or other sports-related activities.
• Previous experience working with physicians or in a healthcare setting.

Schedule

This is a PRN position with scheduling based on athletic event coverage and departmental needs. Hours are not guaranteed and may vary based on the needs of HMC and the athletic programs served.

Availability for evenings, weekends, games, practices, tournaments, and other scheduled athletic activities may be required.

• Constantly (67100% of the time): Standing, walking, talking, hearing, near visual acuity, and use of hands and fingers for athletic training activities, patient care, documentation, and equipment operation.

• Frequently: Assist with positioning, supporting, and stabilizing athletes or patients during evaluations, treatment, rehabilitation, and emergency situations.
• Occasionally (1133% of the time): Lifting and carrying athletic training equipment, supplies, and other materials.
• As needed: Respond quickly to athletic injuries and emergency situations and assist with emergency care activities.
• Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments, including athletic fields, gymnasiums, training rooms, and other assigned locations.
• Ability to safely perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in athletic and community settings, including high school athletic facilities, athletic fields, gymnasiums, training areas, and other locations where athletic events and activities are conducted.

The employee may be exposed to varying weather conditions, uneven surfaces, physical activity, athletic injuries, infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and other healthcare or environmental hazards. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided when necessary and must be used in accordance with established policies.

The position requires frequent interaction with student-athletes, parents/guardians, coaches, athletic directors, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
