Overview Kate Spade New York is a global lifestyle brand known for its colorful, bold, and optimistic aesthetic. The Senior Designer, Handbags, Outlet is responsible for developing ideas and executing product design in line with the seasonal conceptual direction. The role leads the design team under the guidance of the Senior Design Director and collaborates with Merchandising, Product Development, Raw Materials, Technical Design, and the Print team. The successful candidate will leverage their design proficiency to contribute to seasonal trend research, concept development, and the execution of design through to production. Responsibilities Participate in seasonal trend, market, and material research to support the overarching design concept Support the Senior Design Director in managing team workflow, organization, and structure Manage the design process from conception through production Create and maintain detailed CADs and technical specification packages to accurately communicate design intent, construction details, and material usage to factories and PD partners Contribute to the overall cohesion of each seasonal assortment; collaborate with design team members to ensure a well-rounded product line and provide recommendations on seasonal themes and line edits Ensure product quality is high and aligned with market trends and business strategy Support the preparation of design presentations, mood boards, and visual tools for key milestone meetings Build strong relationships with cross-functional partners across merchandising, product development, hardware design, and the print team to define the seasonal framework and align creative ideas with business goals Qualifications Bachelors Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience 8+ years leather handbag design experience in a trend-driven, aspirational brand Strong portfolio demonstrating the ability to translate creative concepts into commercially successful products Strong computer knowledge, including Adobe Illustrator Strong ability to hand sketch Strong design and conceptual skills Strong sense of trends, style and color Knowledge of raw materials and construction techniques Graphic design and experience working with prints is a plus Strong communication and organizational skills Understanding of merchandising as it relates to sales and store environment Competencies Our Competencies for All Employees Courage: Provides current, direct, complete, and actionable feedback; addresses issues promptly Creativity: Generates new ideas and connects previously unrelated notions Customer Focus: Meets the expectations of internal and external customers Dealing with Ambiguity: Adapts to change and handles risk and uncertainty Drive for Results: A reliable performer who aims for outcomes Interpersonal Savvy: Builds professional relationships with diplomacy Learning on the Fly: Learns quickly when facing new problems Our Competencies for All People Managers Strategic Agility: Anticipates future trends and develops strategic plans Developing Direct Reports and Others: Provides challenging tasks and development discussions Building Effective Teams: Fosters team morale and collaboration Kate Spade is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer.
