Life Science Patent Attorney - Partner Level

Job Overview: A law firm seeks a Life Science Patent Attorney at the Partner level in Chicago, IL. The ideal candidate will possess technical expertise in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or biotechnology, with five to ten years of experience in patent prosecution and client counseling. A portable book of business is required to drive client success and practice growth. Duties Manage patent prosecution for diverse clients, including Fortune 100 companies and startups. Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications with high-quality deliverables. Collaborate with clients to provide technical insights and strategic patent advice. Contribute to business development and strategic growth efforts. Mentor junior practitioners and support team development. Manage client budgets and project timelines efficiently. Stay updated on industry developments and legal trends. Requirements Advanced degree (Ph.D.) in life sciences or related field; master’s degree or substantial industry experience considered. 5-10 years of patent prosecution experience in biotechnology or related sectors. Licensed to practice law in Illinois or eligible for admission. Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong legal analysis and problem‑solving abilities. Effective management of multiple clients and cases. Strong organizational and time‑management skills. Experience in training and mentoring junior practitioners. Ambition and adaptability with a proactive attitude. Benefits Origination bonus for each client brought to the firm.
