Construction & Facility Maintenance

Construction & Facility Maintenance employees support the upkeep and improvement of nursery facilities and infrastructure. This role performs construction, repair, and maintenance tasks related to irrigation systems, yard structures, and general facility improvements.

Employees in this role assist with a variety of projects including irrigation repairs or upgrades, carpentry work, shade structure construction, concrete work, and general yard maintenance to ensure the nursery remains safe, functional, and well maintained.

Essential Functions

• Perform moderate to complex irrigation repairs and system upgrades throughout the nursery.
• Grade and level areas of the nursery as needed, including adding gravel or installing posts.
• Replace nursery posts and install head-level wire used for tree ties.
• Build or repair pallets when required for operational use.
• Assist with construction projects such as pouring concrete, building shade structures, and other facility improvements.
• Perform miscellaneous building repairs and yard maintenance tasks as needed.
• Maintain nursery grounds by keeping work areas clean, organized, and safe for employees, customers, and vendors.
• Travel to other nursery locations when needed to assist with construction or repair projects.
• Follow direction from Yard Management regarding assigned tasks and projects.

Additional Responsibilities

• Assist other nursery departments as needed.
• Support general nursery operations and facility maintenance activities.
• Duties are subject to change at any time per management's discretion.

Experience & Other Requirements

Required

• Ability to perform basic construction and maintenance tasks including carpentry, irrigation repair, and facility upkeep.
• Ability to safely operate hand tools and basic construction equipment.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.

Preferred

• Experience working in construction, irrigation maintenance, facility maintenance, or a related field.
• Experience working in outdoor environments such as nurseries, agriculture, or landscaping.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position is performed primarily outdoors in active nursery environments.

Work conditions include varying weather conditions, uneven ground surfaces, and exposure to dust, plant material, moisture, odors, and seasonal allergens. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as applicable.

Physical requirements include:

• Extensive walking throughout the nursery during the workday.
• Frequent bending, twisting, turning, squatting, kneeling, and crouching.
• Working on uneven surfaces including dirt, gravel, plant material, and irrigated areas.
• Use of hands and fingers for grasping tools and handling materials.
• Lifting up to 60 lbs independently (approximately 50% of the time).
• Participating in team lifts up to 100 lbs (approximately 25% of the time) when required.
