Impact Summary:

MTech is seeking an experienced Staff Manufacturing Engineer to join our aerospace and defense manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of manufacturing engineering experience and a proven track record of developing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing processes for precision aerospace and defense components and assemblies. This role serves as the technical bridge between engineering and production, ensuring designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and capable of meeting stringent quality, schedule, and regulatory requirements.

The Staff Manufacturing Engineer will be actively engaged on the production floor, providing hands-on support to manufacturing operations, resolving production challenges, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This individual will support multiple programs and contracts simultaneously, balancing competing priorities while ensuring production schedules, customer commitments, and program milestones are achieved. The successful candidate will also support quoting and estimating activities, manufacturing planning, production scheduling, and cross-functional collaboration throughout the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes for aerospace and defense products, ensuring safety, quality, cost, and delivery objectives are achieved.
  • Collaborate with design engineering teams during product development to provide design recommendations.
  • Apply advanced Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to evaluate engineering drawings, resolve manufacturability concerns, develop manufacturing strategies, and support inspection and acceptance requirements.
  • Evaluate product designs and recommend manufacturing process improvements to reduce cost, improve quality, increase production efficiency, and improve schedule performance. 
  • Develop manufacturing plans, process flows, work instructions, routers, tooling concepts, and production documentation.
  • Support manufacturing execution by providing daily hands-on technical support on the shop floor, troubleshooting production issues, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Serve as the primary manufacturing engineering resource for new product introduction and transition from development to production.
  • Prepare cost estimates and manufacturing quotes by evaluating labor content, machine time, tooling requirements, materials, and process capabilities.
  • Work closely with estimating, program management, production, procurement, quality, and operations teams to support proposal development and production planning.
  • Identify process improvements and lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, cycle time reduction, and cost savings.
  • Develop tooling, fixturing, and machining strategies to improve manufacturing performance.
  • Support root cause investigations and corrective actions related to manufacturing issues.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes comply with applicable aerospace quality standards and customer requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews, manufacturing readiness reviews, and production planning meetings.
  • Evaluate new manufacturing technologies and recommend implementation where appropriate.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to manufacturing engineers and production personnel while fostering collaboration across multiple programs.

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing engineering principles and best practices.
  • Advanced knowledge and practical application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), engineering drawings, tolerance stack-up analysis, and inspection methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex manufacturing problems using structured root cause analysis and data-driven decision-making techniques.
  • Strong understanding of production scheduling, manufacturing capacity planning, workflow optimization, and schedule recovery strategies. 
  • Expertise in machining, fabrication, assembly, and precision manufacturing processes.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. 
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects while meeting aggressive production schedules and customer commitments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for team collaboration and technical documentation.
Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of manufacturing engineering experience in an aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with manufacturing planning, process development, and production execution.
  • Experience developing manufacturing cost estimates and supporting quoting activities.
  • Experience providing manufacturability input during product design and development.
  • Experience supporting CNC machining, fabrication, or precision manufacturing operations.
  • Proven experience supporting production personnel and resolving manufacturing issues in a shop environment. 
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, engineering drawings, machining processes, tooling, and inspection methods.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Software Applications. 
  • Experience using NX CAM and SolidWorks CAD preferred for manufacturing programming and process development.
  • Experience with Teamcenter Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software preferred.
  • Experience using PolyWorks for metrology, inspection, or dimensional analysis preferred. 
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and ability to obtain and maintain a US Security Clearance to the level of SECRET.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

Travel:

Travel may be required up to 5% or less.

Salary Information: 

The estimated starting salary for this position between is $115,000-140,000 annually however, the successful candidates starting pay will be based on, but not limited to, their experience, qualifications, skill set, work location, and market conditions. Pay and Benefits are subject to change at any time and may be modified at the discretion of the company.
