Job Details Job ID: 5815150 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Posted: Jul 02, 2026 Starting Date: To Be Determined Job Description Position Purpose: Primary responsibilities are to maintain a caring and instructional climate by providing students with a positive neutral environment to learn responsibility, re‑teaching opportunities, prevention and intervention strategies, and building confidence in students’ ability to apply skills learned to real situations through logical consequences. May provide academic assistance and work with teachers to collect assignments. Essential Performance Responsibilities Interact and communicate with administrators, trainers, students, staff, and parents in a courteous, professional manner. Record data for documentation, accountability, and evaluation. Use crisis management methods to de‑escalate behavior. Monitor for hostile behaviors to ensure safety of students and staff. Collaborate with teachers to collect assignments and provide academic assistance. Work with and understand the needs of a diverse student population. Maintain an instructional focus among students in the room. Maintain a calm and professional demeanor at all times. Additional Duties Perform other related tasks as assigned by supervisor and central office administrators as directed by the Superintendent. Equipment This position may require the use of SMART boards and iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must comply with OPS’s guidelines for equipment use. Travel Limited local travel may be required. Physical and Mental Demands Respond rapidly in emergency situations. Demonstrate organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills. Work in an office environment and school buildings. Lift, move, and reposition objects and materials, frequently exerting force up to 50 pounds. Interrelations Contact with district personnel, students, and parents. Work under direct supervision of the department supervisor. Handle all situations with tact and diplomacy when working with a diverse population. Understand and respond appropriately to customer needs, maintaining a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues. Employee Punctuality and Appearance Must perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours unless approved leave. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities An Associate’s degree, OR completion of 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours at a higher learning institution, OR demonstrated proficiency in assisting instruction of reading, writing, and mathematics via state or local competency test. Background or experience working with behaviorally disordered students in a secondary setting preferred. Previous experience in a public school setting preferred. Evidence of good mental and physical health. Ability to collaborate as a team member. Follow oral and written directions. Positive attendance record and prior work history. Computer proficiency required. Work with and meet individual student needs. Follow OPS policies and practices for discipline, philosophy, and guidelines. Display professionalism and confidentiality. Perform record keeping duties. Serve as positive, mature role model. Willingness to learn alternative methods for handling inappropriate school behavior. Reports To: Secondary School Building Principal Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 7.0 hours per day, Monday‑Friday, 10 months, Non‑Exempt Salary Schedule: Negotiated position. Wages administered consistent with negotiated agreement. Terms of Employment This position is a full‑time non‑exempt classified role. Employment governed by state laws regulating employment in Nebraska public schools and Board of Education policies. If represented by a collective bargaining representative, employment governed by negotiated agreement between OPS and representative.
