Job Description
This position manages planning, procurement, and supplier coordination to support production, maintain optimal inventory levels, and ensure continuity of supply in a regulated manufacturing environment. This role functions in collaboration with vendors, sales, marketing, and manufacturing, contributing significantly to valued partnerships.
Responsibilities
Oversee multiple product lines from procurement to finished goods inventory.
Develop material purchase plans based on sales forecasts and customer demand.
Understand inventory usage, scrap, and waste, and provide strategic insights to improve inventory flow within the company.
Develop strategies to manage supply fluctuations including shortages, logistics delays, engineering changes, and order adjustments while maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
Coordinate material movements between storage areas and external suppliers to ensure materials are available when needed.
Provide high-level recommendations on projects for each product line.
Source materials and potential resources worldwide.
Communicate inventory risk, trends, and performance metrics to management.
Engage with 3PL companies to ensure trade compliance documents and certifications are in line for import and exports.
Perform supplier sourcing and negotiation.
Maintain a true split of 50/50 between purchasing and planning.
Essential Skills
Experience in purchasing, planning, scheduling, and ERP systems.
Strong in supply chain management, procurement, and logistics.
Ability to manage material planning, MRP, and manufacturing processes.
Proficiency in contract negotiation and planning.
5-10 years of supply chain experience with a mix of buying and planning.
Advanced knowledge of ERP systems (experience with JDE preferred but not required).
Proficiency in resource planning and supplier negotiations.
Advanced Excel skills.
Capability in long-term forecasting (1+ year).
Experience in managing manufacturing schedules.
Excellent communication skills.
Experience working with CMOs.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree required (necessary for growth within the company).
Combination of purchasing/buying and planning experience, with both production and material planning expertise.
Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment such as pharmaceutical, medical device, automotive, or aerospace.
Work Environment
This role is within a niche medical device manufacturer specializing in ophthalmology products and tools for eye procedures. The position is based at the manufacturing site, with occasional visits to the corporate headquarters. Both facilities are located in Gardena, a few minutes apart. The work schedule is flexible, with most team members starting between 7-9 AM. The role is 100% onsite. The team includes two entry-level buyers and additional support from the operations side. There is potential for upward mobility to a managerial role with the necessary qualifications. The work culture values promotion from within, as evidenced by the current GM's career progression. A personable and professional demeanor is essential, given the cross-functional collaboration with departments such as sales, customer service, engineering, and production. Problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to business challenges are highly valued.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Glendora, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.
