Peer Recovery Support Specialist – Recovery Housing Manager The Peer Recovery Support Specialist – Recovery Housing Manager provides peer-based recovery support and recovery residence oversight to individuals with substance use and/or mental health challenges. Drawing from lived recovery experience, this role supports residents in developing recovery skills, maintaining wellness, accessing community resources, and sustaining a safe, recovery-oriented living environment. This position also assists with the day-to-day operations and oversight of the recovery residence to promote structure, accountability, safety, and community integration. Key Responsibilities Engage residents and guests in supportive, recovery-oriented interactions grounded in empathy, lived experience, hope, and non-judgment. Provide peer support services utilizing trauma-informed, strength-based, and person-centered approaches. Assist residents in identifying goals and developing self-directed recovery and wellness plans, including Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP) or similar tools. Connect residents to community resources and supports including outpatient treatment, medical care, employment services, benefits, transportation, housing resources, recovery meetings, and social supports. Support residents in developing independent living skills, healthy routines, coping skills, and community integration. Assist with resident intake, orientation, house expectations, and transition/discharge planning. Assist residents with accessing transportation and attending appointments, recovery meetings, employment opportunities, court obligations, and other recovery-supportive services. Provide transportation of residents/guests as authorized and in accordance with agency policies and procedures. Promote and maintain a safe, recovery-oriented, substance-free living environment consistent with program expectations and recovery housing standards. Monitor the safety, cleanliness, and overall condition of the recovery residence and report maintenance, safety, or environmental concerns promptly. Facilitate or assist with house meetings, recovery-focused activities, wellness groups, and peer-led programming. Support residents in maintaining accountability to house guidelines, program expectations, and individualized recovery goals. Assist in resolving conflicts and behavioral concerns using trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and de-escalation techniques while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. Respond appropriately to resident concerns, crises, emergencies, or incidents and follow all required safety and incident reporting procedures. Complete required documentation, communication logs, incident reports, and electronic health record documentation accurately and within required timelines. Maintain effective communication and collaboration with clinical staff, supervisors, external providers, and community partners to support continuity of care and resident success. Participate in program meetings, supervision, trainings, and quality improvement activities. Model recovery principles, ethical conduct, healthy boundaries, and professionalism in all interactions. Comply with all applicable federal, state, accrediting body, and agency policies, procedures, and regulations, including HIPAA and confidentiality standards. Demonstrate knowledge of and support for Westbrook Health Services mission, vision, values, policies, procedures, confidentiality standards, and code of ethical behavior. Required Qualifications Lived experience of recovery from a mental health and/or substance use disorder, and a willingness to openly share that experience in a supportive and respectful way. Must meet state or organizational criteria for a certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (e.g., WV PRSS, PRS, CPSS). Minimum of 2 years of substance abuse recovery and/or lived mental health experience. Cannot have any legal involvement within the last six months. Must pass a criminal and DHHR background check, as well as a post-offer drug screen. Must have valid driver’s license. High school diploma or equivalent required. Strong communication and active listening skills, with the ability to build rapport across diverse populations. Commitment to recovery-oriented, person-centered, and trauma-informed practices. Basic computer skills for documentation and communication. Ability to work as part of a team in a calm, compassionate, and flexible manner. Available for occasional evening, weekend, or on-call responsibilities. Physical Requirements This position requires the ability to regularly walk throughout the recovery residence and property. Must be able to stand, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb stairs; and occasionally lift or carry up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to assist with general household operations, transport or move supplies, safely operate a motor vehicle for community-based activities when needed. The role also requires the ability to respond appropriately in emergency or crisis situations, observe resident behavior and environmental safety concern, and maintain the emotional and physical stamina necessary to work in a residential behavioral health setting. Employee must be able to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically, and utilize standard office and documentation systems. The work environment may vary from in office to in residence, out in the community etc. and occasional evening, weekend, or on-call responsibilities.
