Forklift Driver

The Forklift Driver is responsible for safe and efficient transport, loading, and unloading of materials, parts, and finished goods within the facility. Operating in a fast-paced automotive manufacturing environment, the Forklift Driver supports production by ensuring timely material flow across departments such as plastic injection molding, chroming, painting, and assembly, while strictly adhering to safety and quality procedures.

The Forklift Driver operates forklifts and powered industrial trucks (e.g., counterbalance, reach truck, pallet jack) to move raw materials, components, WIP (work in progress), and finished goods. They load and unload trailers, staging materials for production lines and shipping. They supply production areas with materials in a timely manner to prevent downtime and transport hazardous materials safely in accordance with company policy and regulations.

They perform material transactions using scanners or inventory software (ERP/MES). They label and verify part numbers, quantities, and lot codes for accuracy. They support cycle counts and inventory audits. They store materials in assigned locations to maintain a clean and organized warehouse.

They coordinate closely with production, shipping, and quality departments. They deliver or remove components between departments such as molding, chroming, painting, and assembly as needed. They assist with packaging and palletizing of finished goods.

They perform daily forklift safety checks and report any mechanical issues. They maintain clean and damage-free equipment. They ensure proper battery charging or fuel level monitoring of assigned equipment.

High School Diploma or GED required. 1+ year of experience in a manufacturing or production environment in automotive industry preferred but not required. Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to follow technical work instructions. 12 years of forklift driving experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment (automotive preferred). Knowledge of safe handling of hazardous materials and chemicals is an asset. Basic math and computer/data entry skills for inventory tracking.

Always adhere to all company and OSHA safety regulations. Wear required PPE, including safety shoes, high-visibility vest, gloves, and safety glasses if any. Follow established traffic patterns and speed limits within the plant. Use horn and warning signals when approaching intersections or pedestrians. Keep forklift forks low while traveling and avoid overloading equipment.

Ability to sit, stand, and operate powered equipment for long periods (up to 12-hour shifts). Must be able to lift to 50 lbs. (23 kg) occasionally. Ability to bend, twist, and climb in and out of equipment regularly.

Fast-paced, team-oriented manufacturing environment. Shift work, including nights, weekends, and overtime as needed. Exposure to automated machinery and manufacturing processes. Compliance with company policies on quality, safety, and environmental regulations.
