Senior Investment Accountant

A growing private equity real estate investment firm is seeking a Senior Investment Accountant to join its accounting and finance team. This position offers a unique blend of investment accounting, fund accounting, corporate accounting, accounts payable, and expense management , providing broad exposure across the firm's investment portfolio and parent company operations. The Senior Investment Accountant will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial reporting across real estate investments and investment entities while also helping oversee the firm's accounts payable and corporate expense management processes . The ideal candidate will bring a strong accounting foundation, excellent attention to detail, and an interest in developing a broad understanding of the accounting and financial operations of a private equity real estate platform. Key Responsibilities Perform accounting and financial reporting activities for real estate investments, funds, joint ventures, and related investment entities . Maintain general ledgers and prepare recurring journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and account analyses . Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across investment and fund entities. Prepare and review financial statements, supporting schedules, and management reporting. Monitor investment-level activity and ensure transactions are appropriately recorded within the accounting system. Assist with accounting related to acquisitions, dispositions, financing activity, capital expenditures, and other investment transactions . Support accounting and reporting associated with capital contributions, distributions, and intercompany activity , as applicable. Coordinate with property managers, operating partners, lenders, and other third parties to obtain and review financial information. Review property- and investment-level financial results and investigate unusual activity or variances. Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation within Yardi . Accounts Payable & Expense Management Take an active role in the firm's accounts payable and expense management functions across both investment entities and the parent company. Review invoices, expense reports, coding, approvals, and supporting documentation to ensure expenses are appropriately recorded and allocated. Manage and monitor the AP workflow from invoice receipt through approval and payment. Ensure expenses are properly allocated across corporate, fund, investment, and property-level entities . Review vendor activity and assist with vendor setup, maintenance, and payment controls. Prepare and maintain accruals and prepaid expense schedules . Perform corporate credit card and expense account reconciliations. Identify opportunities to improve AP processes, expense controls, documentation, and reporting. Assist with cash management and payment processing activities as needed. Corporate Accounting & Reporting Support accounting and financial reporting for the parent/management company . Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules. Assist with corporate budgeting, expense analysis, and variance reporting. Monitor intercompany transactions and ensure appropriate accounting and reconciliation between entities. Support management with ad hoc financial analysis and reporting. Help maintain strong internal controls and scalable accounting processes as the organization and investment portfolio grow. Audit, Tax & Compliance Support Assist with annual financial statement audits and other external reporting requirements. Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for auditors, tax providers, and other external partners. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to respond to audit and accounting requests. Help ensure compliance with established accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required ; Accounting strongly preferred. Approximately 4+ years of progressive accounting experience , ideally within real estate, private equity, investment management, public accounting, or a related environment. CPA or CPA candidate preferred. Public accounting experience preferred. Experience with Yardi strongly preferred. Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will be a well-rounded accountant who enjoys working across multiple areas rather than operating within a narrowly defined accounting function. This individual should be equally comfortable working through an investment-level reconciliation, reviewing fund or property financial information, and digging into corporate expenses or accounts payable activity.
