About this Role:

Under general direction of the Medical Program Consultant (MPC) and working with other MC 2s, the incumbent will have responsibilities for the planning, development, supervision, and administrative direction over clinical determinations and reviews for medical necessity for the Medi-Cal program. The incumbent plans, organizes, directs and assigns the clinical workload and quality of the work of the Medical Consultants I (MC I) in the Section. The incumbent provides professional advice and guidance on the medical aspects of medical review and oversight decisions for consistent, statewide decision-making and application of Medi-Cal policies and regulations. The incumbent also serves as supervisor for those MC 1s working on Designated Public Hospital and the Diagnosis Related Group Projects, on treatment approval requests for the GHPP program, and in the preparation of position statements for those MC 1s involved in Fair Hearings. The incumbent performs regular Quality Assurance of MC I Treatment Authorization Requests (TAR)s adjudication decisions, TAR consultations between Nurse Evaluators (NE) and MC Is, and consultations between NEs and MCs related to the TAR-free programs. The position is full-time and fully remote. Candidates must reside in the State of California and must an active and unrestricted medical license issued by the Medical Board of California.

New to state candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of the alternate salary range when applicable. Placement to alternate range may be based on education or experience identified in your state application.

This position is designated under the  Conflict of Interest Code . The position is responsible for making or participating in the making of governmental decisions that may potentially have a material effect on personal financial interests. The appointee is required to complete  Form 700within 30 days of appointment and once per year. Failure to comply with the Conflict-of-Interest Code requirements may void the appointment.

Telework and Salary Information

Telework: This position is currently eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change consistent with DHCS’ Telework Program and Government Code sections 14200 – 14203. Telework is available to California residents, and proof of residency may be required.

Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated office and residence subject to regulations and bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the reporting location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

The DHCS office location for this position may be located in West Sacramento, Los Angeles, Rancho Cucamonga, and San Diego.
