The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Summary The Psychologist serves as a core clinician within Columbia University's Counseling & Psychological Services (CPS), providing comprehensive mental health care to the diverse student population. This role encompasses the full spectrum of psychological services, including individual and group psychotherapy, psychological assessment, crisis intervention, and case management for students presenting with a wide range of concerns, from developmental and adjustment challenges to serious psychopathology. In addition to direct clinical responsibilities, the Psychologist actively contributes to the broader Columbia community through outreach initiatives, consultation with campus stakeholders, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams within Columbia Health. Depending on clinical expertise, the role may include specialized responsibilities in areas such as eating disorders, trauma-informed care, substance use, LGBTQ+ issues, multicultural counseling, and support for specific student populations including international students, veterans, and first-generation students. The Psychologist may also contribute to the training and professional development of psychology fellows. This is an essential onsite role requiring some evening hours and on-call duties; limited hybrid flexibility may be considered. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role. Responsibilities Provides short-term and moderate-term psychotherapy and crisis intervention. In collaboration with the CPS social work team and senior psychologists, coordinates and case manage emergent and high-acuity situations. (50%) Provides comprehensive psychological evaluations and triage assessments for students presenting with a range of mental health concerns. Develops client-centered treatment plans grounded in a thorough review of presenting problem(s) and developmental, social, psychological, academic, and treatment history. (15%) Maintains up-to-date, accurate, and clinically thorough patient records in accordance with professional, legal, and institutional standards, including timely completion of session notes as per department guidelines. 10% Staff drop-in hours and provides same-day service to students. 10% Depending upon clinical needs and individual qualifications, participates in at least one specialized clinical activity, including but not limited to: 7% Facilitating therapy groups and/or psychoeducational workshops Conducts couple therapy Participating in gatekeeper training and other outreach activities Serving on the Trauma Support Team, Multidisciplinary Eating Disorders Team, or Behavioral Health Team Leading or contributing to initiatives addressing specific student populations, including but not limited to veterans, international students, students of color, first-generation students, and/or LGBTQ+ students Providing training and supervision to psychology fellows Collaborates with providers and other services within and outside of Columbia Health on clinical and non-clinical work-related activities, including but not limited to strategic planning, reaccreditation, and multidisciplinary committees. 3% Provides consultation to deans and other campus staff concerned about specific student issues. 3% Participates in QA and evaluation activities as needed; complies data in areas of specialty when requested and performs other duties as assigned. 2% Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology, or Ph.D. in counseling psychology from an APA accredited program. New York State license required or eligible. A minimum of 5 years of related experience required with at least three years acceptable clinical experience and/or completion of a fellowship in college mental health or related area. Advanced diagnostic and therapeutic skills, with demonstrated proficiency in short-term treatment models and crisis intervention. Experience working with a young-adult population. Demonstrated ability to work with serious psychopathology (e.g., psychotic and suicidal patients). Excellent interpersonal and communications skills. Preferred Qualifications Clinical experience in a university or college counseling service. Inpatient experience. Experience in community mental health, prevention, and/or outreach activities. Specialty experience in one or more of the following areas: eating disorders, alcohol and other substance use disorders, learning problems, CBT, DBT, group therapy, multicultural counseling, LGBTQ+ issues, trauma-informed treatment, health psychology, veterans’ concerns, and/or international student populations. Other Requirements Proficiency in Bengali, Cantonese, French, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese and other languages is a plus.
