Associate Database Administrator

Position: Associate Database Administrator Location: Boston, MAJob Id: 453 # of Openings: 1 Geode Capital Management, LLC is seeking a highly motivated Associate Database Administrator to join our System Operations (SysOps) team. On the SysOps Team, our mission is to support the whole firm’s database administrative needs. In this role, you will see a direct correlation between your work efforts, asset growth, risk mitigation, and internal user satisfaction. As we continue to expand and create, we have a lot of exciting work ahead of us.This role is based out of our office in Boston, Massachusetts. You are required to follow the firm’s policy on in-office attendance. Our current policy requires in-office attendance on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and then provides an option to work remotely on Monday and Friday. Please note that Geode may alter this policy at any time.Responsibilities: Install, configure, and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring system health and performance, to ensure high levels of security, performance, availability, and resilience. Design, develop, implement, and maintain, processes using T-SQL, Powershell, and SSIS.Define and implement data access controls and monitoring.Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinementBe proactive and identify areas of improvementHandle incident, problem, and change requests across all severity levels through enterprise ticketing systems, following established incident and change management processesDocument procedures, operational runbooks, and technical knowledge; share best practices with the team, and contribute to continuous learning and operational improvementAt times, provide off-hours support, including weekends and holidays, on a rotationSkills You Bring: Minimum 3 years of experience in MS SQL or PostgresBachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information SystemProficient in supporting production database services per defined service level requirementsKnowledgeable in Database Administration with a focus on data cleanup, transformation, architecture, and automationProficient in writing and optimizing T-SQL queriesProficiency in SQL with experience in major database systems (e.g., SQL Server and PostgreSQL)Knowledge of industry standard database solutions, including high availability, database clusters, mirroring, and replicationExperience in database migration, troubleshooting and resolving issuesGood understanding of database performance monitoring and tuningExperience working in Linux and Windows environmentsNice to Have:Experience with cloud database solutions (e.g., Snowflake, Aurora)Experience with CI/CD toolsHands-on scripting experience with PowerShell or PythionExperience with advanced data movement techniques, including CDCFinancial industry experience preferredCompany Overview:Founded in 2001, Geode is headquartered in Boston’s financial district, the center of one of the world’s most vibrant finance and technology hubs and employs approximately 200 employees.Geode is an institutional asset manager providing core beta exposures across a range of equity and niche asset classes, with over $1.5 trillion.
