Management Trainee Program

$20 - $24 per hour

Summary The Management Trainee position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” In addition to this, Management Trainees perform a variety of sales, merchandising, and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g., cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). The role works closely with the Store Manager to develop sales, recruiting, and leadership skills in order to become a Store Manager. The Management Trainee also shares responsibility for training and motivating teammates and acts as the Store Manager in their absence. Compensation & Benefits Pay range: $20–$24/hr. Final offers are based on a variety of factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications, and other job-related reasons. For sales positions, the company pays a base rate plus commission on sales (the range listed is the estimated base rate plus commission for teammates in this position). Essential Duties And Responsibilities This description outlines the general nature of work performed by teammates assigned to this job. Sales Generation and Guest Service Greet guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and provide legendary service. Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise. Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on guest needs. Anticipate and fulfill guest’s needs by suggesting additional items. Demonstrate product using product knowledge and sales education. Maintain knowledge of current sales, promotions, payment and exchange policies, and security practices. Consistently meet personal sales goals set by Store Management. Fill out and effectively use the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG) daily. Meet or exceed performance standards in all Buckle business builders and guest loyalty. Build and maintain good guest relationships to develop a client‑based business. Model, encourage, and demonstrate leadership in customer service and selling skills. Perform leadership actions and maintain high standards, whether or not the manager is present. Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development Develop skills and assist in leading, directing, motivating, and educating new teammates to meet Buckle’s standards. Motivate teammates to initiate and complete daily tasks. Assist Store Manager with coaching and counseling teammates. Participate in recruiting and interviewing with the Store Manager. Support the Store Manager by setting up all interviews. Visual Merchandise Management Educate teammates to implement, evaluate, and create visual displays based on Buckle guidelines. Manage product categories such as denim, shoes, promotions, and supplies. Maintain store standards of excellence at all times. Ensure sales floor is consistently sized and new freight is appropriately displayed. Operations Work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. Set goals and expectations to complete the Management Trainee Program with weekly topics, assignments, and reviews. Review completed assignments with the District Manager. Establish relationships and communicate with Area Manager, District Manager, and Corporate Office. Accurately complete store opening and closing procedures. Implement Buckle developments with direction from the Store Manager. Complete register balance and bank deposits accurately. Adhere to Loss Prevention policies and store key controls. Handle returns, exchanges, and operational duties in the Manager’s absence. Convey feedback to the Manager regarding sales and teammate performance. Maintain adequate inventory of supplies. Keep store clean, organized, and shoppable. Communicate store repair needs and handle emergencies in the Manager’s absence. Provide feedback to leadership regarding merchandise handling concerns. Communicate policy violations and concerns to the Manager, District Manager, or Human Resources. Apply Buckle’s Code of Ethics and policies. Supervisory and Leadership Support the Store Manager by planning and leading the team, reviewing with teammates, and participating in team meetings. Ensure onboarding paperwork is completed promptly. Prepare to be a Store Manager by supervising teammates and handling supervisory responsibilities. Act as the Store Manager in their absence. Travel and cover other stores within the district as needed. Perform duties with high customer service and positive team spirit. Complete special projects and other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Education And/or Experience Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; or one to three months related retail experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Physical Demands Stand, walk, use hands, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and talk or hear regularly. Occasionally sit. Lifting up to 50 lbs. Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment Regularly works in a retail store setting with moderate noise levels. Objective Qualifications No visa sponsorship available. Ability to operate a motor vehicle and travel, including overnight as required. Relocation may be required.
