CONTOUR / EDGEBAND OPERATOR

Position Description

Shift: 1st Shift: $19 – $23/hour

Shift: 2nd Shift: $19 – $23/hour + $2/hour shift premium

Purpose of the Job

This position is responsible for applying, shaping, and finishing edgebanding materials on curved and contoured wood components to achieve a seamless, durable, and high-quality appearance. This role requires precision craftsmanship and attention to detail to ensure components meet design specifications, aesthetic standards, and production requirements within a woodworking manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Apply edgebanding materials to curved and contoured wood components according to work orders and specifications.
2. Shape, trim, and finish edgebanding to ensure smooth transitions and seamless appearance.
3. Perform hand and machine trimming to match profiles and contours accurately.
4. Inspect edgebanded parts for adhesion, alignment, and finish quality.
5. Repair minor defects such as gaps, chips, or adhesion issues as required.
6. Prepare components for downstream operations such as sanding, finishing, or assembly.
7. Operate edgebanding equipment, hand tools, and power tools safely and efficiently.
8. Maintain consistent quality across production runs.
9. Identify and communicate issues related to materials, equipment, or quality standards.
10. Maintain accurate production documentation as required.
11. Follow all safety protocols and procedures, including proper use of PPE.
12. Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area.
13. Collaborate with team members to meet production goals and deadlines.
14. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Previous experience with edgebanding or woodworking processes preferred.
3. Experience working with curved or contoured components strongly preferred.
4. Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.
5. Ability to read and interpret drawings, templates, and work instructions.
6. Experience using hand tools and power tools in a woodworking environment.
7. Ability to work efficiently in a production or custom manufacturing setting.
8. Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.

Physical Requirements

1. Extensive standing, bending, reaching, and repetitive motions.
2. Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
3. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
4. Ability to perform detailed trimming and finishing work for extended periods.

Personal Protective Equipment

1. Safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and any other required PPE are mandatory while performing edgebanding or working in the manufacturing area.

Work Environment

1. Continuous noise typical of a woodworking manufacturing environment.
2. Exposure to wood dust, adhesives, and airborne particles.
3. Production or custom woodworking facility.
4. May experience hot, humid, dusty, or otherwise disagreeable conditions.
5. Exposure to hazards where failure to exercise care could result in injury.
