Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Sheet Metal Foreman to lead large commercial and industrial projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in HVAC ductwork, architectural sheet metal, and industrial fabrication. You will be responsible for managing crews of 5-15+ installers, ensuring safety compliance, interpreting blueprints, coordinating with other trades, and delivering projects on time and under budget.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Supervision

• Direct and coordinate daily activities of sheet metal journeymen, apprentices, and helpers.

• Assign tasks based on skill level, manage crew schedules, and enforce productivity standards.

• Train and mentor apprentices in proper installation techniques, safety protocols, and trade best practices.

Project Execution

• Read and interpret architectural, structural, and mechanical blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications.

• Lay out work for HVAC ductwork (supply, return, exhaust), Heavy commercial and Industrial settings.

• Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal products using hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment (shears, brakes, plasma cutters, etc.).

• Coordinate with project managers, general contractors, electricians, plumbers, and other trades to resolve conflicts and maintain workflow.

Quality & Safety

• Ensure all installations meet SMACNA standards, local building codes, and project specifications.

• Enforce strict adherence to OSHA regulations (fall protection, lockout/tagout, PPE, etc.).

• Conduct daily toolbox talks, site safety inspections, and complete safety documentation.

Logistics & Reporting

• Track material and tool inventory; submit requisitions for supplies.

• Complete daily reports (timecards, progress photos, production tracking).

• Identify potential delays or change order opportunities and communicate immediately to project management.

Qualifications

Required Experience:

• 5+ years of commercial/industrial sheet metal installation experience.

• 2+ years in a lead or foreman role (managing crews).

• OSHA 10 or 30 certification (or ability to obtain).

• Valid driver’s license (clean record).

Skills & Knowledge:

• Proficient in blueprint reading, takeoffs, and layout.

• Strong working knowledge of SMACNA standards, IMC, and IPC codes.

• Ability to use layout tools (levels, squares, framing squares, laser levels).

• Competent with sheet metal fabrication tools (TDF/TDC connectors, duct mate, Pittsburgh lock, etc.).

• Basic computer skills (email, daily reporting apps, tablets).

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders and scaffolds, work at heights, and stand/walk for extended periods.

• Comfortable working in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain) on active construction sites.

Preferred (but not required):

• HVAC certification or vocational training.

• Forklift, manlift, or rigging certifications.

• Welding experience (MIG, TIG, or spot welding).

• Experience with ductwork for office buildings, Warehouses, healthcare, cleanrooms, or food processing plants.

Compensation & Benefits

• $40-$50 per hour (based on experience)

• Overtime: Available and often required.
