Chief Compliance Officer

the client is seeking a transformational Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) to build and lead an integrated, enterprise-wide compliance function across a complex academic health system. The CCO will shape and oversee enterprise compliance strategy and program design, spanning clinical, research, academic, physician, ambulatory, insurance, accountable care, and administrative operations. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, integrating, and providing oversight for the organization’s enterprise compliance program, including enterprise-wide compliance governance, auditing and monitoring, investigations, regulatory interactions, policy development, and education and training initiatives. Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, with direct access to executive leadership and the Board, the CCO will provide strategic counsel on enterprise compliance risk and lead enterprise-wide risk assessments and the development and execution of the compliance work plan. The role will evaluate the current compliance structure, staffing model, governance processes, and functional capabilities, with the goal of creating a future-state operating model that can support the size, complexity, and continued growth of the enterprise. The CCO will be expected to transform the compliance function from a historically decentralized, operationally reactive approach into a mature, strategically aligned enterprise program. The CCO will serve as the primary liaison with external regulators and enforcement agencies and will advise on compliance implications of strategic initiatives, including system integration, implementation of enterprise health IT solutions, affiliations, acquisitions, new clinical programs, and evolving reimbursement and coding models. The selected leader is expected to bring credentials and experience that may include Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC or equivalent) and a Juris Doctor (JD) or a master’s degree in related fields (such as Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or Business Administration). The role also calls for strong strategic and risk-based decision-making skills, experience managing regulatory audits and investigations, capacity for independent judgment with effective cross-functional collaboration, and leadership experience in healthcare compliance or related regulatory oversight within large, complex academic health systems.
