Pharmacist Duties

Help

1. Dispense, prescribe and/ or administer medicine.
2. Screen for drug interactions and reviews pertinent laboratory results, when necessary, as part of the prescription verification process.
3. Interface with physicians or other health care providers in the design of a drug treatment plan and monitors drug therapy for patients.
4. Prepare complex combinations regimens for clinical protocols including new and investigational agents and biologic response modifiers.
5. Provide drug information to physicians, nurses, and patients on investigational drugs being utilized and ensures that up to date information is readily available in the patient care units.
6. Compare and contrast therapeutic regimens and use for new and existing products.
7. The pharmacist joins medical teams on their daily rounds to monitor and review patient drug therapy.
8. Reviewing intravenous (IV) medication for incompatibilities, a task primarily performed in an inpatient setting where IV therapy is common.
9. Providing up-to-date drug information directly to patient care units.
10. Overseeing technicians who fill sterile pharmaceuticals, which often includes IV admixtures for hospitalized patients.
11. Preparing complex regimens for clinical protocols, including investigational agents and biologic response modifiers, often administered in a controlled hospital environment.
