Job Title: Production Operator
Job Description
This role focuses on operating production machinery and mixing equipment to manufacture high-quality printing ink in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Openings are available across multiple shifts, including machine operator and mixer positions, with all new hires training on first shift. You will work with batch mixing, machine operation, packaging, and basic quality control tasks while following established procedures and safety standards.
Responsibilities
* Operate production machinery and mixing equipment to manufacture batches of printing ink according to established procedures and mill settings.
* Run batches of ink at proper mill settings to ensure consistent quality and performance.
* Package finished products into various containers, apply labels accurately, and prepare items for shipment or storage.
* Clean and maintain machines in accordance with TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) standards to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
* Learn and apply TPM knowledge to daily activities, including routine checks, preventive maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.
* Weigh up batches by following both automatic and manual steps and adhering to the correct process order of material addition.
* Mix batches by safely discharging pigment, operating mixers, and following all mixer standard operating procedures (SOPs).
* Operate Hockmeyer mills and maintain optimum overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) standards during production runs.
* Create and maintain a database of existing formulas, including processing times and other relevant production data.
* Perform canning activities, including filling, sealing, and preparing containers of ink.
* Operate press-out units, pump filter equipment, and forklifts as needed to support production and material handling.
* Act as a quality control liaison by providing ink samples, making ink adjustments, and accurately recording data.
* Complete scheduled maintenance tasks and follow troubleshooting procedures to address basic equipment issues.
* Assist with repack operations and other general production duties as required.
* For mixer roles, perform heavy lifting, including carrying large bags up and down stairs, and work in conditions that can be messy due to ink and materials.
* For packer roles, work in the warehouse area to support packing, material handling, and general labor tasks.
* Follow all safety guidelines, facility rules, and SOPs to maintain a safe and organized work environment.
* Train on first shift to learn equipment operation, processes, and quality standards before moving to assigned shift.
Essential Skills
* At least 6 months of production experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
* At least 3 months of machine operating experience, preferably with production or processing equipment.
* Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to work with machinery and tools.
* Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, including carrying materials up and down stairs for mixer roles.
* Willingness to learn new processes, equipment, and maintenance practices.
* Comfort with general production, machine operation, and general labor tasks.
* Ability to follow detailed instructions, SOPs, and safety guidelines.
* Capability to perform repetitive motions, such as scraping down machines, while maintaining focus and quality.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
* Forklift experience is preferred; training is available for candidates without prior forklift experience.
* Experience in mixing, machine operation, or pump filter industry is preferred.
* Experience with batch mixing processes and operating production machinery is a plus.
* Mechanically inclined, with an interest in learning TPM activities and basic troubleshooting.
* Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment that produces ink and related products.
* Openness to working different shifts, including 1st (7:00 a.m. 3:30 p.m.), 2nd (3:00 p.m. 11:30 p.m.), and 3rd (11:00 p.m. 7:30 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning).

Work Environment
The role is based in a manufacturing facility that produces printing ink, with work performed on production floors and in warehouse areas. You will work on 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift, with all new hires initially training on 1st shift (7:00 a.m. 3:30 p.m.) before moving to their assigned schedule. The environment involves operating mixers, mills, press-out units, pump filter equipment, and forklifts, as well as performing heavy lifting and repetitive motions. Because the work can be messy due to ink, the facility provides uniforms so your personal clothing stays clean, along with a locker room and standard accommodations. Once converted to permanent status, employees receive a shift differential for 2nd shift and 3rd shift, reflecting the hours and demands of the production schedule. Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Edwardsville, KS. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
