Akicita Federal is hiring a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner to deliver high-quality outpatient primary care to Navajo children and families served by the Indian Health Service at Pinon Health Center in Pinon, Arizona — a rural community at the heart of the Navajo Nation. This is meaningful, relationship-driven work caring for approximately 11,000 patients, many of whom are traditional Navajo speakers, within a close-knit multidisciplinary care team. You'll practice full-scope pediatric and family-focused medicine in an environment that values cultural awareness and community connection.
- Provide outpatient pediatric and urgent care services to American Indian patients at Pinon Health Center, including walk-in and scheduled appointments.
- Diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic pediatric conditions across a diverse rural patient population.
- Support the Teen Clinic and Urgent Care departments, adapting care to the unique developmental and health needs of adolescent patients.
- Participate in off-site services including the Pinon High School Teen Clinic and community immunization events within the Chinle Service Unit region.
- Document clinical encounters accurately and in compliance with IHS, HIPAA, and facility-specific policies and procedures.
- Coordinate with an interdisciplinary team that includes primary care, women's health, dental, pharmacy, behavioral health, physical therapy, and public health nursing staff.
- Deliver culturally sensitive care that respects traditional Navajo practices and the broader mission of the Indian Health Service to elevate the health of American Indian and Alaska Native communities.

- Current, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner licensure valid for practice in the applicable jurisdiction.
- Board certification or board eligibility as a Nurse Practitioner in a relevant specialty (e.g., Pediatrics, Family Practice); board eligibility valid for up to 7 years from successful completion of initial certification requirements.
- Graduate-level degree (MSN or DNP) from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- Ability to provide outpatient pediatric and family medicine/urgent care services independently and as part of a care team.
- Compliance with IHS credentialing requirements, including background screening per the Crime Control Act of 1990 and the Indian Child and Family Violence Act.
- Commitment to HIPAA, Privacy Act, and IHS computer security standards in all clinical documentation and data handling.
\nWhat sets candidates apart:
- Prior clinical experience working with American Indian, Alaska Native, or other underserved rural or tribal populations.
- Familiarity with Indian Health Service, Navajo Area IHS, or federally qualified health center (FQHC) practice environments.
- Experience in urgent care or walk-in clinic settings in addition to scheduled outpatient pediatric care.
- Conversational or proficient Navajo language skills, or demonstrated experience practicing with interpreter support in a Native language context.
- Background in community health, school-based health clinics, or immunization outreach programs.
