EEG tech I

Major Responsibilities Perform electroencephalographic (routine, video, and portable) and evoked potential recordings. Assist physicians with EMGs/NCV. Perform calibration at the beginning of every recording. Record standard montages for both adult and pediatric patients. Execute standard and modified montages as required by clinical circumstances, including addition of electrodes and appropriate recording techniques. Conform to policy and procedure for all activities. Archive records: prepare and burn compact discs for storage of digital EEGs, and log all digital data in the appropriate log book. Maintain departmental documentation: enter charges and credits into Care Connection promptly; maintain daily log sheets; assign procedure numbers to recordings; file reports upon completion; assist in the collection of process improvement data; collaborate on research projects with staff and neurologists. Maintain EEG lab and supplies: order supplies from General Stores, outside vendors via Lawson, and office supplies from Corporate Express; keep the lab/work area clean; promote patient safety by reporting issues and participating in safety initiatives. Engage in professional and personal growth activities: attend one conference or meeting per year in the specialty; review and share current literature with associates; orient and provide clinical education to EEG students; complete all mandatory in‑services; participate in external professional activities and organizations related to EEG; accept membership on assigned committees; serve as a resource person for associates regarding EEG and neurodiagnostic testing. Education & Experience Required High school education. Six months to one year of formal EEG/EP training. Three to four years of EEG/EP experience. Demonstrated recognition of the needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups, including children, adolescents, and normal aging; prior experience with diverse age groups is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required Good communication skills. Good organizational skills. Typing skills. Registered in electroencephalography. Associates in the role prior to June 1, 2013 have until December 31, 2013 to obtain Registered ABRET status. CPR certified. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Ability to stand for extended periods; bend and/or kneel for extended periods; move equipment for portable procedures; meet flexible staffing needs; lift light, medium, and heavy loads; may encounter life‑threatening diseases. If the position involves direct patient care, the lifting requirement of up to 35 pounds without assistance applies; for lifts over 35 pounds or when the patient cannot assist, patient‑handling equipment and at least one additional associate are expected to be used.
