Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval – award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved VA school. Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a US state, territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Residency training: Physicians must have completed an approved residency that leads to board‑certification eligibility. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board‑certified for faculty status.) Scope training program must be approved by ACGME or AOA (or equivalent) and completed in the year the program was finished. OR one year of post‑medical‑school training (internship or transitional year) followed by two years of independent practice in the United States. OR non‑US residency training followed by a minimum of three years of verified independent practice in the United States. Residents currently enrolled in accredited residency training programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on an intermittent basis. PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and are not considered independent practitioners or privileged. Other exceptions may be granted by the Facility Director and VISN Director for exceptional qualifications. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred experience: prior primary‑care and leadership experience. Prior VA experience preferred. Insurance: Federal health, vision, dental, term life, long‑term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement). Licensure: One full and unrestricted license from any US state or territory. CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full‑time with board certification). Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided. Contract: No physician employment contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting. Duties Performs and records history and physical examinations and records data from clinic visits. Evaluates, consults, develops diagnosis, and manages the primary‑care panel of patients assigned. Enters progress notes in the computerized medical record and completes workload documentation in a timely manner. Provides medical care encompassing acute and chronic conditions and all appropriate preventive care for both male and female veterans. Orders diagnostic tests, medications, laboratory tests as medically relevant for each patient. Provides timely follow‑up on results and patient inquiries, including completion of view alerts, secure messages, and other patient communications. Determines medical assessment and develops treatment plans according to accepted protocols. Prescribes medications according to the approved formulary and in accordance with federal and state law. Educates patients concerning medical conditions and recommended treatments (including nutritional counseling, smoking cessation, periodic immunizations, health screening tests, and acute and chronic disease management). Consults other specialties as appropriate according to service agreements. Provides care of female patients as part of ongoing duties and may serve as a Women’s Health Designated Provider. Serves as the first‑level supervisor of primary‑care providers (MD, NP, PA) at the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). Monitors and approves leave requests and clinic cancellation requests and certifies bi‑weekly timecards. Reviews weekly PACT Huddle Minutes from teams. Creates monthly provider surrogate schedule. Monitors provider compliance for training requirements. Conducts comprehensive provider chart reviews for performance (OPPE/FPPE). Attends, leads, and participates in required meetings for primary care and CBOC and serves on select committees.
