Bread Bike Bakery is a small artisan bakery in San Luis Obispo, California. We specialize in 100% organic, naturally leavened sourdough bread and California-style pastries made from whole grain flour milled in-house, using locally sourced ingredients. Service is what you do. Hospitality is how it lands.

Service is the drink made right, the case stocked, the line moving, the market booth set before the first customer walks up. It's technical, it's teachable, and it's the floor--not the ceiling.

Hospitality is the part that makes a guest's experience unique and genuine. It's reading a room and body language. It's knowing the regular's order before they reach the register. It's welcoming a first-timer with the same warmth and care as a regular. It's guiding the experience, because you are the expert.

We're looking for someone who already knows that difference--and who can teach it and hold the standard. This role is a new one. Nobody has held it before, so you would be the first person to define it.

You would report to our General Manager and work closely with the rest of our management team: two Production Managers (Bread and Pastry), the General Manager, and the Owner.

Job responsibilities:

• Hire, onboard, schedule and develop the customer experience team — five to six core staff plus part-time as needed, across seven days of retail and five weekly farmers markets
• Set and hold the service and hospitality standard, on the floor and at every market booth
• Run day-to-day retail operations: ordering and par levels, cash handling, opening and closing, market logistics
• Own the guest experience end to end
• Build the systems that don't exist yet, and refine the ones that do
• Ensure consistent structure, systems and service on the days you are not present
• Maintain online menus (Toast)

Who we're looking for:

You genuinely enjoy leading and managing a team. You've built something that outlasted you: a training program, an onboarding process, some standard the team kept using long after you stopped watching for it. You can hold a line without being unpleasant about it: warm and exacting, not one or the other. You can work a long line of guests without losing that, and in fact you enjoy bringing calm, warm energy to a group of people. You are the calm eye of the storm that food service can be. You're organized enough that the schedule posts on time and the orders get placed, and self-directed enough that nobody has to check. Café, bakery or restaurant experience helps, but the ability to lead people matters more.

Job skills:

• Clear communication and the ability to hold several threads at once
• Ability to execute espresso drink recipes consistently and efficiently (or be willing to train quickly)
• Ability to dial in espresso consistently, day to day
• Ability to maintain a clean workplace

• Attention to detail and accuracy

• Intermediate computer skills
• Valid Driver's License
• Comfortable driving large vans and possess a clean driving record

Compensation and benefits:

Regular wage: $32/hr

Physical requirements:

• Stand and walk continuously for an entire 6 to 8-hour shift, excluding authorized meal and rest breaks
• Safely and frequently lift, carry, push and pull items weighing up to 50 lbs (never exceeding 50 lbs unassisted)
• Consistent use of hands and wrists for dialing in espresso, wiping counters, typing on POS systems, and handling cash
• Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling and reaching above shoulder level to restock supplies, pack market crates, and clean equipment
• Work efficiently in a dynamic, high-volume kitchen environment with fluctuating temperatures and shared workspaces
• Consistently use loud, clear verbal call-outs (for example "Behind," "Hot," "Sharp") to ensure spatial awareness and safety in a busy kitchen
