Job Title: Clinical Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical-Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 7PM - 7:30AM Hours per Shift: 12.5 Experience: Minimum 2 years in Med Surg experience in a hospital setting License: Client Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred; Associate degree acceptable with relevant experience or active matriculation in a BSN program Description: The Clinical Nurse is a registered professional nurse. Provides safe, competent quality care based on nursing theory and research to a designated group of patients and their significant others. Delivers patient care by incorporating the tenets of the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care. Applies the nursing process based on theory, research, evidence-based practice, and approved organizational nursing standards. Assesses and evaluates patient care needs. Applies critical thinking skills in patient care management. Integrates relevant assessment and intervention skills in the delivery of nursing care. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the plan of care. Prioritizes all aspects of patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, and planning after hospital care. Delegates to others as appropriate. Educates patients and caregivers about their plan of care, transition of care, promotion of health, and prevention of disease. Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, families, and all members of the interdisciplinary patient care team. Manages assignments within the care delivery model of modified primary nursing. Demonstrates effective allocation of material resources. Role models the tenets of Relationship Centered Care through facilitation of specific actions. Considers patients' values, preferences, cultural diversity, expressed needs, and knowledge in all aspects of care. Establishes and maintains a therapeutic relationship with patients and families. Uses evidence-based practices to increase understanding of patients' perceptions of care. Initiates service recovery for patients and family members who have concerns. Demonstrates caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening through dialogue, body language, and actions. Practices safe and efficient patient-centered care. Identifies and escalates barriers and opportunities for improvement. Demonstrates clinical skills and knowledge crucial to quality and safety in the patient population served. Implements process improvement strategies based on institutional policies and procedures. Engages in formal and informal peer and institutional review processes. Contributes to quality and safety practices and required compliance measures. Implements principles of high reliability to provide a safe environment for patients. Documents nursing practice to support quality and performance improvement initiatives. Performs charge nurse duties as assigned. Coordinates with the clinical coordinator and nursing management to ensure appropriate utilization of supplies. Escalates material or staffing resource deficits to nursing management. Demonstrates patient-focused and cost-effective approaches to patient care. Documents in an accurate and thorough manner in compliance with care standards. Facilitates patient throughput on a shift basis. Contributes to the environment of care to support clinical colleagues, patients, and their families. Advances clinical competence in nursing practice to progress from novice to expert. Projects a professional image to colleagues and communicates with respect and empathy. Incorporates ethical principles into decision-making for patients and families. Encourages a spirit of scholarship, inquiry, life-long learning, and innovation for self and others. Participates in shared decision-making through nursing department committees and unit initiatives.
