Travel RN – Operating Room (OR)

Unit Overview

• Department: Operating Room (Cost Center 72)
• Operating Rooms: 9
• Procedure Rooms: 1
• Hybrid OR: 1
• Average Daily Case Volume: 35–45 surgeries
• EMR: Epic

Required Experience

• 2–3 years of recent OR experience
• 2–3 previous travel assignments required
• Orthopedic OR experience required
• Epic experience required
• Robotics experience required (must be experienced passing robotic arms in and out)
• Evening/night shift travelers must be experienced across all OR specialties
• RN scrubbing experience is a plus but not required

Required Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS
• PALS preferred

Surgical Specialties

The OR operates 24/7 and covers nearly all surgical specialties, including:

• General Surgery
• Orthopedics
• Neuro/Spine
• ENT
• Ophthalmology
• Vascular
• Trauma
• Robotics (Da Vinci & ROSA)
• Podiatry
• Hand Surgery
• Sports Medicine
• Pediatric Dental & ENT
• Emergency surgeries (appendectomies, craniotomies, trauma, etc.)

Does NOT cover:

• CVOR
• Labor & Delivery C-sections

Schedule

Multiple shift options depending on department need:

• 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
• 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
• 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
• 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM
• No self-scheduling for travelers
• Block scheduling may be approved based on unit needs

Call Requirements

Weekday Call

• One weekday call rotation (7:00 PM–7:00 AM)
• Approximately one weekday every two weeks

Weekend Call

• One 24-hour weekend call per month

Holiday Call

• Rotational

Call Response Time

• 30 minutes
• Travelers living farther than 30 minutes away must stay closer to the facility while on call

Charge & Staffing

• Charge RN available daily (7 AM–7 PM)
• Charge nurse may circulate if needed
• Night shift may have one RN with two surgical techs , so independent OR experience is essential

Floating

• May float to Outpatient Surgery

Orientation

• 1 week / 3 orientation shifts

Dress Code

• Hospital-provided OR scrubs
