Medical Assistant 3The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Family Medicine and Community Health has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time, Medical Assistant 3 to work in Miami.Core Job Summary:The Medical Assistant 3 performs multi-skilled tasks to assist the medical providers. The Medical Assistant 3 assists patients' healthcare management and clinical procedures in a culturally competent manner utilizing evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service. The Medical Assistant 3 provides hands-on care to patients while adhering to regulatory requirements, standards of care, and institutional policies and procedures, under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician.The physician in charge may delegate the tasks to oversee the MA 3 to a Nurse or Designee in charge of the unit/clinic. The incumbent adheres to ethical and legal standards of professional practice, recognize, respond to emergencies, and demonstrate professionalism. The role provides care within the philosophy, mission, vision, and values, as well as within the policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing and the University of Miami. As a professional, monitors the quality of care provided and nurtures a compassionate and healing environment. The Medical Assistant 3 works directly with the Nurse Manager/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse and/or the Designee in charge of the Unit or Clinic to ensure a safe delivery of care that supports the UHealth mission.Core Responsibilities:Utilizes creative methods to support patient's individual needs and respect patient's spiritual beliefs, faith, and practices.Establishes a trusting relationship by creating and maintaining a conducive climate for healing by being authentically present to the patient and family, identifying and managing discomforts, providing emotional support.Prioritizes and integrates multiple requests and work expectations by performing tasks appropriately, in a timely manner safely and professionally. Communicates clearly and in a timely manner to patient and family, as well as the appropriate team members. Seeks assistance when needed.Contributes to team building by participating in unit/clinic programs and meetings. Commits to positive morale, using constructive and effective conflict resolution skills. Learns and utilizes available technology resources for communication, documentation, and locating pertinent information regarding clinical situations, diagnosis, and treatments.Attains educational knowledge and competencies that reflects current clinical practice skills. Demonstrates commitment to lifelong learning and is responsible for his/her own professional development and maintenance of knowledge regarding the patient population and assignments.Ensures compliance with all State and Federal regulatory guidelines to include Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).Performs professionally within their clinical scope of practice skills utilizing State, Federal, and University of Miami's standards, guidelines, relevant statues, rules, and regulations. Incorporates protocols and standards of care into daily practice.Accepts and provides focused constructive feedback and guidance with loving kindness in a manner that provides growth and maintains self-esteem.Abides by the standards for ethical behavior, therapeutic communication and protecting the privacy of patient information.Assists providers with physical examinations by preparing treatment/exam room with proper supplies, instruments, and materials, as directed.Understands the importance of medical and surgical asepsis. Prepares patients for physician's care withbasic instruction and information regarding examination procedures.Perform vital signs, EKG, phlebotomy, and document in patient's medical record.Cleans and/or sterilizes medical instruments while observing principles of sterile technique. Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work.Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation. Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies, and assists in performing clerical duties.Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.Department Specific Functions:Ensure completion of required integrative medicine intake questionnaires, lifestyle assessments, and health history forms prior to scheduled appointments.Review patient intake forms for completeness and follow up with patients regarding missing information.Coordinate specialty laboratory testing processes, including distribution of testing kits, patient instructions, specimen collection logistics, shipment tracking, and follow-up activities.Assist patients with specialty laboratory testing requirements and escalate clinical questions to the appropriate provider.Support operational workflows related to provider-recommended supplement programs and approved supplement ordering platforms.Provide patients with educational materials and resources related to supplements, specialty testing, wellness programs, and integrative treatment plans as directed by providers.Maintain inventory of specialty laboratory kits, patient educational materials, supplements, and integrative medicine program supplies.Serve as a liaison between patients, providers, specialty laboratory vendors, and external wellness service partners to facilitate care coordination and continuity of services.Coordinate patient appointments and support operational workflows for integrative health services, including acupuncture, massage therapy, nutrition counseling, mindfulness and meditation programs, health coaching, yoga and movement therapy, and lifestyle medicine consultations.This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.Core Qualifications:Approved MA Certifications :CMA- Certified Medical Assistant - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)®RMA- Registered Medical Assistant - American Medical Technologists (AMT)CCMA- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant- National Healthcare Association (NHA)NCMA - National Certified Medical Assistant (NHA - NCCT)NRCMA - Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NAHP)American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providersHIV & AIDS Certification: Florida HIV/AIDS Healthcare Professional Continue Education (CE) CertificationHigh School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, certification or licenseMinimum 4 years of relevant experience requiredLearning Agility: Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.Communication: Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.Experience with electronic medical records (Epic is commonly used at many academic medical centers).Knowledge of integrative or lifestyle medicine principles.Strong organizational and time-management skills.Excellent communication and patient education abilities.Ability to work in a fast-paced outpatient clinic while providing compassionate, whole-person care.The University of Miami offers competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, tuition remission and more.UHealth-University of Miami Health System, South Florida's only university-based health system, provides leading-edge patient care powered by the ground breaking research and medical education at the Miller School of Medicine.
