Sign Language Interpreter

Make a meaningful impact in the educational journey of a high school student as an American Sign Language Interpreter. In this contract position, you’ll collaborate closely with dedicated school professionals, facilitating communication and ensuring access to instruction and activities for a student who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Your fluency and expertise will help create an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Key Qualifications Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Current EIPA score of 4.0 or higher required in Minnesota (candidates with a lower score and substantial experience may be considered) Experience interpreting in educational settings, ideally with high school students Knowledge of educational terminology and classroom practices Ability to maintain confidentiality and display professionalism Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and reliability Primary Responsibilities Interpret classroom instruction, school events, and extracurricular activities using ASL Collaborate with general and special education staff to support student IEP goals Adjust interpreting techniques and language to fit various subjects and classroom dynamics Foster student independence, engagement, and participation Provide feedback to staff regarding communication needs and strategies Adhere to ethical standards as outlined by interpreting professional organizations Position Perks Opportunity to work standard school hours: 8:15 am to 3:05 pm, weekdays only Develop meaningful relationships with students and educators Enhance your professional interpreting experience in an educational environment Make a daily difference by empowering student access to learning Let your expertise in sign language open doors for a bright, motivated student.
