DSP (Direct Support Professional)

Role Summary

Come join our team here at United Cerebral Palsy of San Joaquin, Calaveras and Amador Counties! As a DSP (Direct Support Professional), you’ll support individuals with disabilities by helping build practical, everyday skills and providing personal care under the direction of program management.

Key responsibilities include functional skills training, personal care assistance, safe lifting/positioning/transferring, behavior support using approved techniques, clear documentation, and staying calm and professional in high-stress situations.

Required qualifications/skills:

• - High school diploma or GED (experience in day/residential disability services preferred)
• - Read, write, and understand English; strong verbal/written communication; follow instructions
• - Basic math skills
• - Working knowledge of personal computers (highly desirable)
• - Valid CDL and clean driving record
• - Punctual, dependable, ethical, and customer-service focused; able to work independently and collaboratively
• - Respectful and sensitive to diversity; general knowledge of developmental/physical disabilities, including seizure awareness
• - Maintain First Aid/CPR and meet California Community Care Licensing personnel standards

A Typical Shift

You’ll follow a set Monday–Friday part-time schedule onsite in Stockton, starting by checking in with program leadership and reviewing the day’s plan. Throughout the shift, you move between structured activities and hands‑on support, adjusting your approach to each person’s pace and goals. You’ll spend time tracking progress notes and completing required records, coordinating with teammates, and keeping an eye on safety and comfort. Some moments are routine and steady; others require quick thinking, patience, and a calm presence. By the end of the day, you’ll wrap up documentation, communicate key updates, and help ensure a smooth handoff for continued support.
