The Role The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for planning and executing the construction program according to Suffolk’s procedures, including safety, quality, and schedule. Responsibilities may be divided by area or by trade discipline. Responsibilities Maintain and distribute construction documents to the entire project team (plans, specifications, RFIs, bulletins, field reports). Manage layout and verify field dimensions. Verify subcontractor layout for compliance with established line and grade. Administer Suffolk’s Quality Management Program, including First Delivery and Benchmark Inspections, documenting deficiencies and tracking to resolution. Continuously monitor job progress on‑site, checking all work for compliance with contract documents. Document daily construction activity using written reports, photographs, sketches, and software tools. Create and distribute daily and weekly work plans, including schedules and logistics plans. Attend and participate in meetings with customers and clients, providing updates on construction status and addressing concerns. Compile and maintain permits, testing, and inspections required for project completion and acceptance. Assist in administration of the Suffolk Safety Program, including pre‑construction meetings, pre‑task planning, daily monitoring, and enforcement of safety requirements. Supervise and mentor field engineers in their daily work. Communicate clear expectations for safety to project teams. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management preferred. 2+ years of experience in related construction fields. Self‑motivated and strong organizational, communication, time management, and multi‑tasking skills. Strong sense of urgency. Working Conditions The role requires prolonged sitting, use of keyboard and telephone, fine motor skills, standing, walking, and reaching. Vision requirements include close and distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work is performed in an office environment with moderate noise and on construction sites. Compensation Information Base salary range in New York City: $85,000–$120,000 (or $98,000–$121,000 as stated). Comprehensive benefits package is provided.
