Early Development Associate Medical Director

Vertex Pharmaceuticals

Vertex Pharmaceuticals seeks an Early Development Associate Medical Director to lead Phase 1 clinical trials in Boston. The role involves trial strategy, protocol development, regulatory submissions, and medical monitoring, working across internal and external stakeholders to ensure safety and scientific integrity.

Responsibilities

Develop study protocols, investigator brochures, and early development plans with cross-functional teams
Serve as primary medical monitor for assigned trials, overseeing safety and scientific integrity
Prepare regulatory documents including IND/CTA submissions and safety reports
Participate in study execution teams to ensure efficient, high-quality trial conduct
Represent Vertex to external medical personnel on protocol development and study results

Requirements

MD, DO, or equivalent international medical degree
8+ years basic or clinical research experience in academic or industry setting
Board certification or eligibility in relevant medical specialty
Strong written and oral communication skills
Working knowledge of GCP, biostatistics, pharmacology, and clinical study design
Experience with regulatory interactions and global clinical research preferred

Compensation: $204,000–$306,000 base
