Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Oncology RN for a Med/Surg Tele unit requiring an active OH or compact RN license and 2 years of current acute care med/surg tele experience.

Details

• Cancer hospital setting on a Med/Surg Tele oncology unit
• Cares for adult and geriatric patients with cancers including endometrial, bladder, renal, ovarian, and cervical cancers
• Unit provides chemotherapy, clinical trials, brachytherapy, and CBI treatments
• 12-hour Day/Night rotating shifts, with schedules reviewed every 4-week period based on staffing needs
• Staffing ratio target of 1:4, may be adjusted up to 1:5 based on unit needs
• Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs
• No set or blocked scheduling requests permitted
• Uses Epic charting system

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
• Minimum 2 years of current acute care Med/Surg Tele nursing experience within the last 12 months
• Current BLS certification required
• Skilled in telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and emergency response
• Experience with chemotherapy administration and monitoring preferred
• Familiarity with oncology-specific procedures such as brachytherapy preferred
• ONS Chemotherapy certification preferred
• Experience with PCA, surgical drains, and tracheostomy care preferred
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
• 2 professional references required, with at least one from a manager, director, or supervisor; a Charge RN may serve as the second reference; coworker references not accepted

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to oncology patients, ensuring physical and emotional well-being
• Administer chemotherapy and monitor for adverse reactions
• Participate in clinical trials, including data collection and documentation
• Perform specialized procedures such as brachytherapy and neobladder care
• Implement infection prevention protocols and support fall prevention initiatives
• Monitor telemetry and respond to changes in patient condition, collaborating with rapid response teams as needed
• Manage feeding tubes, IV therapy, blood product administration, and central line care
• Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary care teams
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Locals accepted at the same rate
• RTO must be submitted with the application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
• Former employees eligible to return as travelers after 6 months away from the facility
• Current employees of the health system are ineligible for traveler positions
• Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing the contract due to strict compliance timelines
