Summary
The Police Officer enforces local, state, and federal laws, and ensures compliance with Taylor University policies. She/he provides security for personnel, real property, and equipment. Responsible also for investigating and documenting incidents / crimes, documenting and preserving evidence, and providing legal testimony. Officer may be assigned to any shift and fill a number of responsibilities as required due to need.

Duties and Responsibilities
This position is primarily responsible to:
• Testify to personal experience of salvation in Jesus Christ, affirm belief in the University's Statement of Faith, abide by and practice our Life Together Covenant, and both personally agree with and support the Foundational Documents of Taylor University.
• Actively support and follow the rules, regulations, and policies of Taylor University and the TUPD.
• Support and enforce the statutes / laws of the State of Indiana as needed, in circumstances of criminal investigations and other occurrences on University-owned property requiring police intervention including but not limited to: reports of crime (subsequent report writing), traffic accidents (subsequent state accident reports), arrest scenarios, and response to crime / emergency in progress.
• Actively participate in foot and vehicular security / safety patrols.
• Monitor and enforce University traffic and parking regulations on University-owned property.
• Report safety / security concerns and strategic input for resolution.
• Participate in security patrols and proactive criminal preventative methods; respond to emergency and non-emergency calls in accordance with training guidelines.
• Investigate criminal and inappropriate behavior by person(s) on campus and report findings Chief and/or Deputy Chief in a timely manner.
• Provide assistance to local, state, and federal law enforcement agents in situations that involve crimes committed against or involving members of the Taylor University community and/or University-owned property.
• Remain available to respond to all University-related emergencies, to include working extra shifts as needed to maintain 24/7/365 service to the Taylor University community.
• Participate in required professional development seminars, certifications, as applicable.
• Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
• Other duties as assigned. Typical Qualifications Education and Experience
• High school degree or equivalent.
• Current and in good standing Indiana Law Enforcement Academy certification required, or
attained within first year of employment, at discretion of Chief of Police.
• Possession of a valid Indiana driver's license, required. Skills and Competencies
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to control reactions in emergency situations, handling stress calmly and effectively.
• Ability to understand and follow safety procedures and specific instructions.
• Ability to write reports containing technical information and complete moderately complex
administrative paperwork.
• Skill and experience in the use of first aid procedures.
• Skill in providing protection services to individuals on campus.
• Ability to gather and organize legal evidence, including for accident and criminal investigations.
• Skill in the operation of police equipment.
• Skill in utilizing building security and lock systems and procedures.
