Dental Hygienist

Duties As a Dental Hygienist, you would perform allowable dental services under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist, providing compassionate oral care for the developmentally disabled population. Duties include preliminary exams, prophylaxis, scaling and curettage, x‑ray taking, fluoride, SDF treatments and sealants, charting dental history, providing in‑office education for patients or aides, collaborating with dental assistants, assisting the dentist with chair‑side procedures, maintaining tools and equipment per OSHA standards, keeping routine compliance documentation, purchasing supplies, and occasional travel between locations. Daily interaction with patients, staff and occasionally with family, guardians, service coordinators, nursing staff and primary care physicians. Minimum Qualifications License and current registration to practice dental hygiene in New York State. Experience: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55‑b/c status in the posted title and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1, 70.4, or 52.6 of Civil Service Law. For the New York state employees transferring to this title, ability to be appointed as a permanent competitive employee. Additional Information This title is part of the NewYork Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). Positions may be filled via a non‑competitive appointment, and you do not need to take an exam to qualify, but must meet the minimum qualifications. Within one year of permanent appointment, employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have their permanent non‑competitive employment status converted to permanent competitive status.
