DAYTIME HOSPITALITY TEAM MEMBERCocktails Coffee Food Service

Full-Time | 8:00 AM5:30 PM | $20+ Avg.

Big Aztec Corner Bar is hiring an experienced hospitality professional for one cross-trained daytime position inside the historic Aztec Theatre in Downtown San Antonio.

This is one job, not separate bartender, barista and food-service positions.

Every daytime team member is expected to work across the entire operation, including cocktails, coffee, food preparation and service, POS, guest service, dishes, cleaning, restocking and sanitation.

This is a busy, hands-on, cross-trained hospitality position.

It is NOT a bartender-only job.

It is NOT a position where you stand behind the bar waiting for drink orders.

Our daytime team handles cocktails, coffee, breakfast and lunch food service, guest service, POS transactions, stocking, dishes, cleaning, sanitation and preparation for the next shift.

You will be moving throughout the entire shift and frequently handling several responsibilities at the same time.

DAYTIME-ONLY SCHEDULE

8:00 AM5:30 PM

This position is specifically for our daytime operation.

• No evening shifts
• No late-night shifts
• No 2:00 AM closes
• No closing shifts

Full-time employees generally work approximately four shifts per week.

Weekend availability is required as scheduled.

COMPENSATION

Average total earnings are $20+ per hour, including:

• Hourly wages
• Cash tips
• Credit card tips
• Performance bonuses

Actual earnings vary based on hours worked, business volume, tips and performance.

WHAT A TYPICAL SHIFT CAN INCLUDE

During the same shift, you may:

• Prepare cocktails
• Serve beer and specialty beverages
• Make coffee and caf beverages
• Prepare aguas frescas
• Prepare breakfast items
• Reheat and serve breakfast tacos
• Assemble breakfast sandwiches
• Assemble gourmet hot dogs
• Prepare toppings, condiments and service supplies
• Take orders at tables and the counter
• Enter orders into the POS
• Open and manage customer tabs
• Process cash and credit card payments
• Run food and beverages
• Clear and reset tables
• Wash dishes and utensils
• Restock refrigerators, beverages, food and supplies
• Check food and refrigeration temperatures
• Label, date and rotate food
• Clean food-preparation areas
• Clean the bar and caf
• Sweep and mop floors
• Empty trash
• Clean customer areas
• Inspect and clean the restroom
• Restock paper products and sanitation supplies
• Prepare the operation for the next shift

Everyone participates in the operation.

There is no separate dishwasher.

There is no separate busser.

There is no separate barback assigned to do your stocking and cleaning.

If something needs to be cleaned, stocked, washed, prepared or handled, the team handles it.

THIS JOB IS PHYSICALLY ACTIVE

You should expect to be on your feet and moving for most of the shift.

This position requires:

• Standing and walking throughout a long shift
• Frequent bending, reaching and repetitive movement
• Carrying supplies, beverages, ice and inventory
• Working around hot equipment and refrigeration
• Moving between the bar, caf, food station, tables, storage and restroom
• Maintaining a fast working pace during busy periods

Downtown traffic can change quickly based on tourism, conventions, concerts, River Walk activity and special events.

Some periods may be steady.

Other periods may become extremely busy with little warning.

You must be able to change priorities quickly while maintaining accuracy, cleanliness and professional guest service.

YOU MUST BE ABLE TO MULTITASK

You may be making a cocktail while monitoring a food order, answering a guest question, watching a table, processing a payment and keeping your station stocked.

We expect team members to recognize what needs to be done without waiting to be told every time.

That means:

• Seeing a dirty table and cleaning it
• Seeing an empty refrigerator and restocking it
• Seeing dishes accumulating and washing them
• Seeing supplies running low and replenishing them
• Seeing a guest who needs assistance and helping them
• Keeping your station organized before it becomes a problem

We are looking for people who take ownership of their shift.

THIS MAY BE A GOOD FIT IF YOU ARE AN EXPERIENCED:

• Bartender who wants daytime hours
• Brunch bartender
• Restaurant server with bartending experience
• Barista with restaurant experience
• Caf employee with food-service experience
• Hospitality professional accustomed to working in a small, fast-moving team

THIS WILL PROBABLY NOT BE A GOOD FIT IF:

• You only want to bartend
• You do not want to handle food
• You do not want to wash dishes
• You do not want to clean
• You are uncomfortable cleaning a customer restroom
• You do not like working on your feet
• You need someone constantly telling you what to do next
• You struggle with multitasking
• You are uncomfortable working independently
• You are regularly late or have attendance problems
• You are looking for a slow or low-responsibility daytime job

CLEANING IS PART OF THE JOB

Cleaning is not something that happens only at the end of the shift.

We clean continuously throughout the day.

Responsibilities include:

• Washing dishes, utensils and bar tools
• Cleaning and sanitizing counters and food-preparation surfaces
• Cleaning tables and seating areas
• Sweeping and mopping
• Emptying trash
• Cleaning equipment
• Maintaining the caf and bar
• Cleaning and restocking the customer restroom
• Maintaining sanitation supplies
• Keeping the entire operation inspection-ready

FOOD AND BEVERAGE SERVICE

Our food operation primarily involves assembly, preparation and reheating rather than traditional scratch cooking.

You must be comfortable moving between:

POS AND CASH HANDLING

Previous restaurant or bar POS experience is required.

We use Union POS and will provide training on our system, but applicants should already be comfortable with:

• Entering food and beverage orders
• Opening and managing customer tabs
• Processing cash and credit cards
• Handling an assigned cash drawer
• Correcting order errors
• Maintaining transaction accuracy during busy periods

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must have:

• Previous restaurant, bar, caf or hospitality experience
• Restaurant or bar POS experience
• Current TABC Seller/Server Certification
• Current Texas Food Handler Card
• Reliable transportation to Downtown San Antonio
• Availability to work 8:00 AM5:30 PM
• Weekend availability as scheduled
• Strong attendance and punctuality
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to multitask during high-volume service
• Ability to remain active and on your feet throughout the shift
• Willingness to perform all food-service, beverage-service, cleaning and operational responsibilities
