Pharmacist - PRN

POSITION SUMMARY:The pharmacist oversees the operation and personnel of the pharmacy. Establishes rapport with other departments as well as Medical Staff and Nursing Services. The pharmacists duties include, but are not limited to the following:PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & AUTHORITIES:1. Review all medication orders prior to them being sent to the unit.2. Check unit-dose medication & medications pre-packaged by the pharmacy technician.3. Check the medication carts.4. Review the patient profiles.5. Supervise the storage and distribution of controlled substances.6. Prepare intravenous nutritional fluids (i.e., hyperalimentation).7. Prepare any solutions or mixtures requiring compounding.8. Supply Drug information to physicians and nursing.9. Administrative functions necessary to run the pharmacy department.OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Plans, organizes and supervises activities in the hospitals pharmacy according to hospital policies anddirectives, standard practices of the profession, and state and federal laws.2. Staffs the functions in accordance with the hospital approved budgetary guidelines. Establishesprocedures to ensure that medications are distributed to patients of the hospital in accordance withexisting state and federal laws. Ensures that records are maintained in accordance with these laws.3. Confers with patients and Medical Staff on drug information and education as required and works toadvance the practice of Clinical Pharmacy.4. Supervises the IV additive program, guaranteeing an aseptic environment for the preparation of thesesolutions.5. Supervises the sterile compounding of all pharmaceuticals prepared by the Pharmaceutical ServiceDepartment.Position: Pharmacist6. Controls narcotic, barbiturate and DEA drugs by establishing proper records for receipt, issuance anduse.7. Critical Thinking8. Leads Pharmacy & Theraputic (P&T) Committee.9. Taking lead role in developing annual budget, annual inventory, QI Monitoring, monthly DepartmentDirector meetings, staffing schedules, Policies and Procedures, and 340b Program.10. Other duties as necessary.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, ABILITIES):Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree.Must be licensed and in good standing by the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy.Demonstrates customer, team and interdepartmental service skills.Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of hospital personnel.Supervisory skills necessary to plan, organize, and control activities of the department in a cost effective manner.Good computer skills.OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, REGISTRATIONS, ETC.)PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Moderate physical exertion, lifting 25 pounds or less is routine.Job tasks require a lot of walking, some climbing and stooping and long periods of standing.Work is performed in a controlled environment.WORK ENVIRONMENT:Controlled environment.
