Position Title Interim Assistant Principal Location Mitchell School Reports To Principal Position Start Date As soon as a suitable candidate is found Required Certification Assistant Building Administrator (045) or building Administrator (040) (or certifiable in the State of Maine) Application Deadline As soon as suitable candidate is found Job Description The Kittery School Department is seeking a passionate and experienced Interim Assistant Principal for Mitchell Primary School, which serves a population of approximately 345 students, Pre-Kindergarten through grade 3 with 70+ dedicated faculty and staff. Mitchell Primary School is known for its welcoming environment and connection to the families serving the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. This opening is for a certified building administrator who will help foster a nurturing, inclusive and high-achieving learning environment for all students. In partnership with the Principal, the Interim Assistant Principal will support and develop teachers and staff by promoting best practices in instruction, assessment and professional learning. The ideal candidate possesses problem solving ability, the ability to prioritize and the ability to quickly make decisions when necessary. The Interim Assistant Principal will also assist with the implementation of the Proficiency Based Learning and Educator Effectiveness models. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are required for this position as this person will work with administrators, teachers, support staff, families and students to create a welcoming and safe learning environment for all. Early childhood development and early literacy experience preferred. The individual will serve on the building leadership team, working with staff on meeting building / district level goals. The Interim Assistant Principal, in conjunction with the Principal, will be responsible for the daily oversight and organization of the building, including student transportation incidents, safety across the building, and the analysis of student achievement and attendance data to improve programming. The ideal candidate would also be able to manage student behavior with developmentally appropriate strategies and have a high degree of visibility/presence in the classroom, supporting teachers and students. The candidate will collaborate with the Special Education teams to ensure compliance and high quality programming for all of our learners. The candidate will assume primary responsibility in the absence of the Principal. Experience in teaching elementary students as well as building administrator experience preferred (but not required). Candidates must submit to a Criminal History Record Check through the Maine Department of Education.
