Water Treatment Plant Operator

Overview Under general supervision of the Water Plant Superintendent, perform a variety of skilled work involved in the Operation of as well as maintenance and repair of specialized water and/or water plant equipment, apparatus, and fixtures including pumps, engine motors, and valves. Essential Job Functions Inspects and monitors SCADA systems, pumps, chemical feeders, laboratory equipment, meters, and gauges to determine status of various functions of the plant. Removes solids from treatment units and cleans/backwashes filters as needed. Collects samples required for laboratory analysis; and conducts water analysis test to ensure and maintain water quality. Maintains the efficiency of plant and laboratory operations, including maintenance of equipment, pumps, hoses, filters, and machinery, testing, quality control, and record-keeping procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. Lubricates and changes oil in electrical motors, water pumps, gear boxes , and drive units ; performs periodic routine maintenance on plant equipment. Handles various chemicals necessary for water treatment. Troubleshoots, diagnoses malfunctions, and makes necessary repairs on mechanical equipment and related components. Performs equipment and laboratory preventive maintenance duties. Subject to after-hours call-out for emergency situations. Has frequent contact with employees, citizens, local state, federal agencies, and other city departments. Ability to arrive to work on time and must maintain a regular and reliable level of attendance. Performs other duties as assigned. #J-18808-Ljbffr
