SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

Senior Accountant

Birchwood Construction is looking for an experienced accountant who wants to help build the future of our accounting department, not just maintain it. Working directly with the Director of Finance, you'll lead key accounting functions, help shape financial processes, and develop into the day-to-day accounting leader. You'll work closely with the Director of Finance, Project Managers, and the broader accounting team — applying both analytical skill and attention to detail. At Birchwood Construction, we specialize in high-end, custom homes where every detail matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with the Director of Finance to improve accounting processes and provide day-to-day leadership within the accounting function
• Lead the month-end close process, reconciliations, and financial reporting
• Analyze financial performance and recommend process improvements
• Strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures
• Support construction billing and project financial performance
• Oversee cash reconciliations and treasury-related accounting
• Review and approve invoices, expense reports, and vendor payments
• Support year-end reporting and special projects

Qualifications

• Degree in Accounting/5+ years of relevant accounting experience
• Experience preparing financial statements
• Strong understanding of GAAP
• Demonstrated ability to take ownership of accounting processes from start to finish
• Ability to identify process improvements
• Superior analytical skills
• Capable of working independently with a high attention to detail in a complex environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
