Work Shift Night (United States of America) Job Summary The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and the evaluate-and‑treat process. The RT II delivers patient care in complex, multi‑problem patient situations, primarily in critical care areas with protocol ventilator management, significant independent decision‐making and self‑direction. In addition to patient care, the RT II provides education to patients, families, and support systems, coordinates activities, supports staff development, and participates in professional and self‑development activities. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions Complete patient care, documentation and education. Adopt a team approach to service and promote a positive work environment. Provide supportive environment for students and staff. Perform patient assessment and therapy assessment. Collaborate with health care team members to plan patient care. Verify orders and administer aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, oxygen and medical gas therapy. Perform ventilator management, weaning, waveform graphic interpretation, airway management (intubation, extubation, trach tube change and care). Perform arterial blood gas sampling & analysis. Educate patient and mentor/precept new employees, students and peers. Assist in invasive and non‑invasive procedures, cardiac service procedures, and pulmonary diagnostic testing. Promote current and accurate electronic orders, charting and charging. Promote high levels of patient safety (Medication Safety, NPSG, etc.). Promote performance‑improvement initiatives designed to promote quality care. Promote evidence‑based practice. Review revised and new DPPs. Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Required Minimum Education Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy (preferred). Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s) NBRC‑RRT – Registered Respiratory Therapist RCP – Respiratory Care Professional BLS – Basic Life Support or ARC‑BLS – American Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS‑I – Basic Life Support Instructor ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ARC‑ALS – American Red Cross Advanced Life Support or ACLS‑I – ACLS Instructor Required Minimum Experience 0–2 years of clinical experience, with a minimum of 6 months in critical care. Required Minimum Skills Excellent communication and critical thinking skills. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with physicians and other health care professionals.
