Physician - Urology The Veterans Health Administration is seeking a full-time Urologist for the VA Black Hills Health Care System in Fort Meade, SD. The Urologist is aligned with the Surgical Care ICC and provides inpatient and outpatient urology care, including consultation, evaluation, treatment, procedures, and care coordination across Fort Meade and Hot Springs VA Medical Centers. Location: Fort Meade, SD Vacancies: 1 Salary: $325,000 - $400,000 per year Salary Note: Education and length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine final compensable salary, including base pay and market pay. Pay Scale & Grade: VM-15 Promotion Potential: None Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm Appointment Type: Permanent Telework: Not available Remote/Virtual: Not available Travel Required: 50% or less; travel is required between the Fort Meade and Hot Springs VA Medical Centers Drivers License: Required; must be able to operate a vehicle and travel between Fort Meade and Hot Springs VA Medical Centers Relocation Expenses: Not reimbursed EDRP: Authorized; student loan reimbursement may be available up to $200,000, subject to eligibility and VHA approval Drug Test: Required Security Clearance: Not required Position Sensitivity/Risk: Non-sensitive / Low Risk Background Check: Credentialing and suitability/fitness required Financial Disclosure: Not required Union Representation: Yes Key Responsibilities: Provide urology consultation services in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Evaluate and treat patients with urologic disorders. Perform basic urologic procedures such as cystoscopy, ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy, transurethral resections, bladder biopsy, ureteral stent insertion, retrogrades, and orchiectomy. Respond to patient telephone calls and provide test or lab results, medication renewals, and telephone or email advice to other providers. Enter accurate, complete, and timely progress notes in the electronic medical record using CPRS. Use, maintain, and calibrate specialized equipment used in the assessment and care of patients. Follow safety, health, infection control, and ergonomic standards and report unsafe conditions as appropriate. Assist with new staff orientation and provide patient and family education, including informed consent. Maintain supplies, equipment, and clinical areas to support safety and efficiency. Maintain standards for use and reprocessing of Reusable Medical Equipment. Participate in performance improvement activities, disaster preparedness, administrative duties, and other responsibilities assigned by the Chief of Surgical/Specialty Care Service Line. Participate in the Whole Health System of care by supporting personalized health planning for Veterans. Basic Qualifications: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited in accordance with VA policy. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Must have a Doctor of Medicine degree or equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine. Must have a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Must have completed approved residency training in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification. Must be subject to a background/security investigation. Must pass a pre-employment physical examination. Must pass pre-employment drug testing and remain subject to testing requirements for this testing designated position. Selective Service registration is required for males born after December 31, 1959. Must complete all application requirements and online onboarding requirements. Must provide acceptable identification for employment eligibility verification. Must participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program as required for Department of Veterans Affairs health care personnel. Selected applicant may be required to serve a probationary period, including a two-year probationary period where applicable. Education and Licensure Requirements: Must have a Doctor of Medicine degree or equivalent degree from an approved school of allopathic or osteopathic medicine. Allopathic medical degree must be from a school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education for the year the degree was granted. Osteopathic medical degree must be from a school approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation for the year the degree was granted. Foreign medical graduates must meet Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates eligibility requirements for the year graduated, unless otherwise covered by VA policy. Must hold a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Must have completed approved residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Physical Requirements: Must be able to physically and mentally perform the duties of Physician under normal and emergent conditions. Moderate lifting and heavy carrying of 15 to 44 pounds or more may be required with assistive devices. Requires reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, and use of both hands. Requires walking or standing up to 4 hours per day. Repeated bending may be required up to 1 to 2 hours per day. Requires rapid mental and muscular coordination. Near vision must be correctable, and hearing aid use is permitted. Education Debt Reduction Program eligibility may provide student loan reimbursement up to $200,000, subject to VHA approval and eligibility requirements.
