DescriptionPosition at MacAllister MachineryPosition SummaryThe Applications Engineer is responsible for site-specific engineering support for Electric Power Strategic Accounts, converting customer RFQs into technical, complete, catalog-compliant submittal packages that enable successful project execution. This role reviews project requirements, supports the development of technical submittals, and helps ensure alignment with approved designs and configurations throughout project execution.. Working within configured-to-order environment, the Applications Engineer collaborates with customers, suppliers, Project Managers, Supply Chain, and Product Development to ensure timely, accurate, and scalable project delivery while escalating requirements that fall outside approved design parameters.Position Duties/ResponsibilitiesSite-Specific Engineering & Submittal ManagementSupport the site-specific RFQ engineering process from RFQ receipt through approved submittal handoff to Project ManagerReview customer specifications and drawings, validate alignment with the approved Bias of Design (BoD), and ensure compliance with approved catalog configurationsAssist with the development, approval, and management of submittal packages, revisions, and technical documentation within established design parametersIdentify requirements that fall outside approved catalog offerings and escalate to Product Development for evaluationSupplier Allocation ValidationSupport validation activities to ensure alignment with established designs, technical capabilities and catalog requiremetnsEnsure design integrity, configuration control, traceability, and adherence to engineering standards throughout project executionEscalate technical risks, capability gaps, and design exceptions to Engineering Manager or Product DevelopmentCustomer & Supplier Technical SupportServe as the primary engineering contact for assigned projects, supporting customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders on technical questions, RFIs, assists with compliance requirements, and submittalsParticipate in project-level engineering discussions and resolve issues within approved design boundariesCoordinate project-specific technical deliverables and escalate design-authority decisions as appropriateCross-Functional Project ExecutionPartner with Project Manager, Supply Chain, Field Execution, and Product Development to support successful project deliveryProvide engineering support during project execution, installation, and commissioning activities as neededCommunicate project status, support engineering handoffs, and share lessons learned to improve future product and process performanceProject Delivery Workflow LeadershipCoordinate project and site assignments across the Project Delivery lane to support workload balance and delivery objectivesEstablish and maintain lane standards for customer communication, reporting, invoicing, documentation management, and project execution practicesReview deliverables for quality and consistency, support onboarding and training of new Project Managers, and provide project performance feedback to the Strategic Account LeaderContinuous Improvement Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, submittal quality, standardization, and scalabilityContribute to enhancements in tools, templates, documentation practices, and catalog development based on project experience and recurring customer requirementsSupervisory Responsibilities:No formal supervisory responsibilities.Position RequirementsRequired:Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline5+ years of experience in application engineering, project engineering, or technical submittal development for electrical or mechanical power systemsExperience producing submittal packages for engineer acceptance in project-driven environmentsExperience interpreting and reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, and technical submittalsPreferred:Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering8+ years of experience in application engineering, project engineering, or technical submittal development for electrical or mechanical power systemsExperience with data center projects or high-volume, configured-to-order engineering environments where scalability and repeatability drive engineering decisionsKnowledge of diesel and/or natural gas generator set systems, including controls interfaces, emissions compliance (Tier 4), and enclosure configurationsFamiliarity with Caterpillar Electric Power products and application guidelinesKnowledge of critical power infrastructure (UPS, switchgear, paralleling systems)Familiarity with NFPA, IEEE, and Uptime Institute standards for data center reliabilityExperience with FAT/IFAT commissioning processes for generator systemKnowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesThe requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
