Associate Director – Computational Biology (Cardiovascular, Metabolic, Obesity and Related)

We are looking for an experienced Computational Biologist with expertise in analyzing clinical biomarker data such as metabolomics, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, spatial‑omics, flow cytometry, immunoassays and other assays. In this pivotal role you will support the CVMet and OaR teams as a CompBio Therapeutic Area Lead and Global Biomarker Analysis Lead, integrating computational biology and bioinformatics techniques with biological and clinical data to drive evidence generation and clinical decision making.

Responsibilities

• Develop biomarker analysis plans to support precision medicine, evidence generation and reverse translation during clinical development of therapeutic molecules.
• Define and execute workflows for biomarker data analysis, integrating multiple omics, imaging and digital biomarkers with clinical metadata and outcomes.
• Lead the analysis and interpretation of clinical biomarker data from assay platforms including metabolomics, imaging, flow cytometry, immunoassays, transcriptomics, proteomics and spatial omics.
• Support the generation of evidence for target engagement evaluation, patient stratification, response prediction, indication selection, assay development and diagnostic development.
• Work closely with clinical scientists and biomarker leads to extract biological insights from high‑dimensional datasets and integrate them into translational analytics, precision medicine plans and clinical development plans.
• Collaborate with early development teams, biostatistics, clinical pharmacology, precision medicine leads, clinical biomarker leads and research teams to manage data integration, analysis and presentation.
• Support internal and external presentations with fit‑for‑purpose analysis insights and messaging, and contribute to publication development.

Qualifications

• Doctorate (or relevant post‑doc) and 4 years of scientific experience OR Master’s degree and 7 years of scientific experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of scientific experience.
• PhD in Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computational Biology or Data Science, with a robust background in Biology.
• Background in cardiovascular, obesity and metabolic diseases is highly preferred.
• Hands‑on experience in statistical modeling, machine learning and AI applied to clinical biomarker and efficacy data.
• Strong understanding and practical skills in statistics for clinical data analysis.
• Proven expertise in analyzing multi‑modal, multi‑dimensional, large‑scale biological data.
• Prior experience in a matrixed biotechnology or pharmaceutical setting and proficiency in R and Python.
• Familiarity with agentic frameworks and automation of day‑to‑day tasks.
• Knowledge of platforms used in clinical biomarker research such as pathomics, cytomics, immunoassays, mass‑spectrometry, metabolomics platforms, NGS and proteomics.
• Understanding of inflammatory, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases and their computational biology contributions to drug discovery.
• Ability to translate biological and medical questions into actionable analytical models.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills for presenting complex data in diverse settings.
• Strong project management, organizational awareness, self‑motivation, independence and leadership.

The expected annual salary for this role in South San Francisco is posted. Outside of South San Francisco the range is $182,465 – $246,865.
