OVERVIEW

Conduct technical investigations, analysis, and testimony in commercial and personal injury litigation and failure analysis involving medical equipment and procedures within a hospital or healthcare setting. Provide human‑injury impact analysis in vehicular accidents, amusement park ride accidents, and cases involving falls or falling objects by performing occupant motion studies to determine injury potential/causation, seatbelt use, airbag interaction, and occupant positions. Duties include using computer and physical models to reconstruct accidents, measure load and injury levels, and prepare written reports of findings. The salary range is $149,600 - $224,400, dependent on education, experience, location, and certifications/licensure.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Perform human‑injury impact analysis of vehicular accidents, mechanical failures, falls, and falling objects. Analyze vehicular accidents and mechanical failures, reconstruct vehicular accidents. Prepare written reports of findings in clear, concise, easy‑to‑understand terms. Provide testimony in depositions and the courtroom. Conduct human motion and injury impact analyses. Analyze injuries resulting from automobile, industrial, marine, and recreational accidents. Conduct on‑site vehicle examinations and provide written findings and conclusions. Review various media (photographs, witness statements, depositions, police reports, medical and chiropractic records, etc.) to provide logical conclusions. Locate and apply research of pertinent literature and governmental regulations. Apply mathematical and empirical methods of analyses. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND CERTIFICATIONS

Minimum master's degree in biomedical or biomechanical engineering. Ph.D. preferred. PE license preferred or ability to obtain within 1 year. Minimum of 4+ years in biomedical engineering or biomechanical engineering with a master's degree (or less experience considered for Ph.D. holders). ACTAR certification preferred or ability to obtain within six months.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Strong oral and written communication skills. Background in forensic engineering preferred. Cognitive problem‑solving skills required. Experience working in anatomy, teaching, or the automotive industry is helpful. Working knowledge of general PC applications and software.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS, OVERTIME, AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Physical Demands – Work performed both in office and at outside locations (client offices, industrial, construction, residential sites). Frequent standing, walking on slopes, climbing ladders, bending, crawling under homes, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, driving to job sites. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Sharp focus required during site inspections, client interaction, report preparation, and courtroom testimony. Clear vision and depth perception necessary. Overtime – Position salaried, exempt FLSA; regular hours 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday with one hour lunch. Overtime may be required to meet demands. Travel Requirements – Up to 25% travel; some out‑of‑area and overnight travel may be required.
