Community Association General Manager

Job Overview As a Community Association Manager, you will provide strong leadership and management direction on behalf of the Board of Directors and FirstService Residential. This position will oversee the entire operation and consistently adhere to and execute the mission and vision of the Board and community. You will have oversight of all aspects related to the business and operations of the community, serving as a single point of contact, enhancing communication, and creating effective oversight of staff and operations. The Community Manager is the sole person responsible for day‑to‑day operations, legal compliance, and overall oversight of the association and staff. Your Responsibilities Provide leadership and direction in the development of short‑term and long‑range plans, develop recommendations for goals and action plans, and lead annual goal setting. Review organization structure, job descriptions, and functions, and make recommendations to the Board regarding potential changes. Partner with public, private, and volunteer organizations to provide community services when necessary. Support the activities of the various Board sub‑committees. Maintain knowledge of all Community Governing documents and provide recommendations on revisions. Continuously connect the Board of Directors and committees seamlessly. Provide community leadership and guidance to ensure homeowner needs or desires are addressed. In partnership with the Board, create or cause to be created, and implement the annual working budget, subject to Board approval. Monitor and report on the monthly financial position of the association. Provide leadership to each Board meeting in terms of agenda support and written and oral reports, summarizing priorities with appropriate follow‑up. Recruit, hire, train, and supervise all community staff in accordance with the documented management plan, if applicable. Work closely with local emergency organizations to maintain established emergency and community evacuation plans as appropriate. Consult with other departments, divisions, and outside agencies, including community groups and organizations; identify, develop, and implement programs to meet community needs. Assess and monitor community needs, identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures, develop new programs, and implement improvements. Attend and participate in professional group meetings, staying abreast of new trends and innovations in community management and programming. Maintain on‑site visibility throughout common areas and facilities. Understand all agreements for corporate implementation. Ensure adherence to the master calendar, maintenance calendar, association budgets, and subsidy program. Review corporation policies continually to ensure compliance with civil code, declaration and other governing requirements. Perform building inspections of interior and exterior property and prepare action plans for opportunities. Ensure due diligence for the protection of client funds, property, and assets against foreseeable contingencies or losses. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality. Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in business or related field from an accredited college or university, and three years’ experience in Property Operations, Hospitality, or Construction; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. State specific certifications and licenses are preferable if required by the state. Minimum of seven years of successful community management experience or equivalent professional experience, with at least four years responsible for a staff with diverse expertise. Management experience in a small or medium‑sized organization, including responsibility for more than one functional department or division, is preferred. Understanding of physical building management, condominium law, financial planning, and laws affecting property management. Valid driver’s license and state‑mandated vehicle insurance. Commitment to obtain CPM, PCAM, ARM or AMS designations or equivalent. Physical Requirements Position involves sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, shoving, lifting, carrying and moving objects that can weigh up to 25 lbs and may require climbing several flights of stairs. Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods. Must communicate both on the phone and in person with clients to resolve issues and manage the business. Must have finger dexterity for typing/using a keyboard. Must be mobile enough to move around the office and the property, including lengthy walks on uneven areas. Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors, and associates. Capable of working extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary. Position may alternate between working indoors in a controlled climate and outdoors with variable climate and lighting. Must be able to interact with all types of individuals, be mentally alert, detail‑oriented, with good reasoning skills. Must handle multiple assignments concurrently with frequent interruptions, changes, and delays, maintaining focus and cheerfulness under such circumstances while remaining alert to safety, health, and environmental concerns. Will work effectively and cheerfully in an environment that may be stressful due to adversarial situations arising from the performance of duties. What We Offer As a full‑time exempt associate, you will be eligible for comprehensive benefits, including a choice of multiple medical plans, dental, vision, and others. You will also receive time‑off benefits, paid holidays, and a 401(k) with company match. Occasional travel may be required for training and other company functions.
