POSITION OVERVIEW The Assistant Principal at Legacy Early College is a key instructional and strategic leader responsible for driving academic achievement, strengthening school culture, and developing staff capacity. As a member of the school leadership team, the AP leads data-driven instruction, coaches teachers and emerging leaders, and ensures strong execution of school-wide priorities. The Assistant Principal monitors student performance to ensure all students are on track for college. In partnership with the Principal, the Assistant Principal will help implement a professional development program to guide assigned instructional staff members in becoming excellent teachers. The Assistant Principal is expected to develop the skills and experience necessary to become a future Principal while actively contributing to the school's success. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Instructional & Academic Excellence Lead data-driven instruction cycles, including analysis of student subgroup performance, identification of skill gaps, and implementation of targeted instructional action plans with clear progress monitoring timelines. Develop teachers through high-quality instructional coaching with frequent and scheduled teacher observations, actionable and bite-sized feedback, and accountability for adjustment in practice. Facilitate high-impact professional development throughout the school year and hold staff accountable for the implementation of the workshop practices. Develops deep mastery over the academic standards in the subjects/grades for which he/she coaches, and a strong understanding of academic standards for all subjects/grades. Understands the implications of standards on what a student should know and be able to do, connects teachers with relevant resources to improve their content knowledge, and therefore, what a teacher needs to know and be able to do to facilitate student mastery. Collaborate with grade/subject teams to plan units, lessons, and assessments; regularly share feedback. School Culture & Climate Model how to build strong, mutually respectful relationships with scholars and families and support teachers to do the same. Promote an inclusive school culture that values diversity and ensures equitable outcomes for all students. Analyze school-wide culture data and make adjustments to ensure fidelity to the common picture. Serve as a primary point of escalation for complex student discipline and parent concerns, ensuring timely and effective resolution. Talent Development Assist teacher leaders (e.g., coaches, grade team leaders) in developing leadership skills. Partner with the Principal to recruit, interview, hire, and retain high-performing and diverse instructional staff. Conduct meaningful evaluations and hold staff accountable to clear, mission-aligned expectations. Operational Excellence & Strategic Leadership Contribute to and help drive school-wide strategic planning, own key priorities, and ensure execution across assigned teams. Oversee and manage key aspects of daily school operations (e.g., arrival, dismissal, student transitions, and attendance at afterschool events) to ensure a safe and efficient learning environment. Manage assessment planning and execution, including, but not limited to: Interim Assessments, WIN, WIDA-Access, End-of-Course Assessments, and ACT. Skills & Qualifications Required: Valid Teacher Certification Minimum of 3 years of K-12 teaching experience At least 1 year of instructional leadership experience Demonstrated success in improving academic outcomes, particularly in underserved communities Strong instructional leadership, coaching, and data analysis skills Deep alignment with Legacy Early College’s mission and values Preferred: Master’s Degree Experience leading in a high-quality charter or college-preparatory environment Work Schedule Assistant principals operate on the Legacy Early College academic calendar, on the 240-day (12 month year-round) schedule. A typical week during normal school hours is Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. Hours may vary based on events and other school needs. The position will have periods of extended workweek hours, which are required to support both the ongoing development of the region and the delivery of high-quality education for all students.
