We are seeking an experienced independent Wireless Engineer / Ekahau Survey Engineer to provide wireless site survey and assessment services on a contract basis. The engineer will perform onsite wireless surveys utilizing Ekahau hardware and software, collect accurate RF data, document existing wireless conditions, and provide survey data and supporting documentation for engineering review and customer deliverables.

Assignments may include passive wireless surveys, active surveys, AP-on-a-Stick (APoS) surveys, post-installation validation surveys, troubleshooting surveys, and wireless assessments, depending on individual project requirements.

This is a project-based independent contractor opportunity. Assignments may vary by customer, location, duration, and scope.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform onsite wireless surveys using Ekahau AI Pro, Ekahau Survey, and Ekahau Sidekick/Sidekick 2 or equivalent approved equipment.
• Conduct passive, active, validation, APoS, and other wireless surveys as defined by the individual project scope.
• Review available floor plans, site documentation, existing AP information, and project requirements prior to beginning survey activities.
• Walk designated survey areas methodically to ensure complete and accurate RF data collection.
• Capture and evaluate wireless conditions including:
• • Received Signal Strength (RSSI)
  • Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR)
  • Noise levels
  • Channel utilization
  • Co-channel and adjacent-channel interference
  • Data rates and wireless coverage
  • 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz RF environments, when applicable
• Identify and document existing wireless Access Point locations when required by the project.
• Accurately mark AP locations and other relevant infrastructure on provided floor plans.
• Identify areas of weak coverage, excessive interference, potential capacity concerns, or other observable RF issues.
• Document environmental or physical conditions that may affect wireless performance.
• Take site photographs and maintain field notes when required.
• Communicate onsite issues, access limitations, discrepancies, or conditions that could affect survey accuracy or completion.
• Upload and submit Ekahau project files, survey data, photographs, field notes, and other required documentation following completion of the site visit.
• Follow customer-specific security, safety, access, and documentation requirements.
• Maintain professional communication and conduct while representing the project team at customer locations.

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience performing enterprise wireless site surveys.
• Hands-on experience with Ekahau AI Pro and Ekahau Sidekick/Sidekick 2.
• Strong understanding of Wi-Fi and RF fundamentals, including:
• • 802.11 wireless standards
  • 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz frequency bands
  • RSSI and SNR
  • Channel planning
  • Co-channel and adjacent-channel interference
  • AP placement and coverage
  • RF propagation and attenuation
• Ability to read and interpret building floor plans.
• Ability to accurately map survey paths and AP locations within Ekahau.
• Ability to work independently at customer locations with limited onsite supervision.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
• Professional verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to follow project-specific survey instructions and established survey methodology.
• Ability to travel to assigned customer locations throughout the Louisville area as required.
