SEAS Senior Natural Resource Officer

Job Description Regulatory and technical work monitoring beach use for compliance with regulations governing the Sandy Neck Barrier Beach, including site-specific rules, applicable town ordinances, and state and federal laws. Provide detailed information about environmental processes and resource management at Sandy Neck. Assist the Marine and Environmental Affairs Division with functions at other locations within the town, and perform other duties as necessary. Responsibilities Uphold compliance with regulations established to protect the environmental integrity of the Sandy Neck Barrier Beach. Maintain constant contact and interaction with members of the public, requiring patience, excellent communication skills, and tact. Inform the public about science and management concepts to provide context for enforcement of regulations and any necessary restrictions on visitor activities. Represent and promote the interests, goals, and policies of the Town of Barnstable and Sandy Neck when dealing with the public. Seasonal (SEAS) Position Same responsibilities and job description as the regular position, with the requirement to work all weekends and holidays throughout the term of employment. Minimum Qualifications High school graduation with college-level coursework in resource management, parks, environmental science, teaching, criminal justice, or a related field. Two years of experience in resource management, security, or nature education preferred; any equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable. Certification in First Aid and CPR required; L.G.T., First Responder, Wilderness, or other advanced medical certification preferred. Valid Massachusetts license for operating motor vehicles. Additional Qualifications Knowledgeable of the principles of natural resource management and biological processes. Effective communicator able to convey knowledge to individuals from various age groups, educational levels, and backgrounds. Cognizant of legal ramifications of endangered species legislation, property ownership, public lands, and medical liability, and able to protect the town's interests. Ability to assess complex situations under pressure and handle difficult people appropriately.
