Environmental Services Technician Supervisor

Summary The Environmental Services Technician Supervisor is located in the Environmental Management Services service line of the Phoenix VA Health Care System (PVAHCS). The primary purpose of the position is to serve as supervisor for one or more Environmental Health Teams comprised of Housekeeping Aids. The supervisor ensures that the facility is maintained in a state of physical and biological cleanliness and appearance. Qualifications Applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. A specific length of training and experience is not required, but candidates must demonstrate evidence of training or experience sufficient to perform the duties. Such evidence must be supported by detailed descriptions of work on the candidate’s resume. Applicants may be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. Volunteer work, including paid, unpaid, or volunteer experiences such as those through National Service programs, professional, philanthropic, religious, student, or community organizations, may be used to demonstrate qualifying experience. Volunteer work is credited on the basis of hours actually performed. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours per week. Responsibilities Supervises and directs Housekeeping Aids in maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the medical center, including inpatient wards, operating rooms, isolation rooms, and emergency areas. Implements and monitors infection control and environmental sanitation programs in compliance with VA and CDC standards. Plans, organizes, and assigns daily and weekly work schedules; sets priorities and ensures timely completion of tasks. Conducts regular inspections of work areas to ensure compliance with cleanliness, safety, and quality standards. Provides technical guidance and training to staff on cleaning procedures, disinfecting techniques, and proper use of equipment and chemicals. Oversees handling and disposal of infectious waste and ensures adherence to safety protocols and OSHA requirements. Manages floor care operations, including stripping, waxing, and maintenance of mounted and unmounted equipment. Maintains accurate records for accounting, quality assurance, and reporting purposes. Evaluates employee performance, approves leave, and addresses disciplinary issues in accordance with union agreements and VA policies. Interviews and recommends candidates for selection, promotion, or reassignment. Supports employee development and training initiatives. Ensures compliance with safety directives, including use of PPE and adherence to Material Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Responds to emergency cleaning situations and provides support to other hospital services as needed. Work schedule: Full‑time, Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week; days off are determined by the needs of the service. 3rd shift: 12:00 am–8:30 am.
