Athletic Trainer Assistant Intercollegiate Athletics – Austin, TX Job Information Position Open to: All Applicants Weekly Scheduled Hours: 40 FLSA Status: Exempt Earliest Start Date: Jul 15, 2026 Position Duration: Expected to Continue Location: Austin, TX Purpose Assist the Chief Medical Officer, Assistant Athletics Director, Sports Medicine, Associate Athletic Trainer and Assistant Athletic Trainer in servicing the medical needs of baseball and softball student‑athletes with special reference to the care, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Responsibilities Provide primary medical coverage for baseball and softball teams, including all practices, home competitions, and host events. Assist in designing, initiating and progressing rehabilitation programs as needed according to the changing health status of injured/ill athletes. Assist in the design and implementation of exercise and rehabilitation programs for student‑athletes with medical conditions and test results that warrant such programs. Assist in maintaining electronic medical records and evaluating readiness to compete. Facilitate cross‑disciplinary collaboration with allied health disciplines (e.g., chiropractic, nutrition, massage therapy) to pursue health care solutions. Adhere to institutional policies and NCAA rules regarding medical care and assist with drug testing of student‑athletes in accordance with regulations. Assist with oversight of Sports Medicine Aides and MSAT Immersion Students; work cooperatively with other staff, coaches and department personnel. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer, Assistant Athletics Director, Sports Medicine, Associate Athletic Trainer, and Assistant Athletic Trainer. Drive a UT and/or personal rental vehicle on and off campus as required. Demonstrate the core values and quality service standards of Texas Athletics, comply with laws and regulations, and report violations as required by Title IX and other governing bodies. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training or a related field. Licensed Athletic Trainer by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (or eligible). Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal, organizational and problem‑solving skills. Experience with creation, acquisition and maintenance of medical records. Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. Demonstrated understanding of the medical needs, expectations and requirements of student‑athletes. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree in Athletic Training or a related field. NATABOC certification (or eligible). Experience at the NCAA Division I level, specifically with baseball and softball. Advanced certifications in allied health specialties or advanced clinical skill set. Experience supervising athletic training students and implementing complementary therapies within conventional care plans. Driving Requirement This position requires a class C driver’s license; applicants must provide a current three‑year driving record from their state of residence. If not a Texas resident, a Texas driver’s license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a resident. Employees with a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing. Salary Range $29,700 (based on a 10‑month appointment per year) Working Conditions Uniforms and/or personal protective equipment furnished. Works in all weather conditions and standard office environments. Manual dexterity required; climbing stairs, lifting and moving objects.
